Direct Connection to Computer via USB?
« on: August 21, 2009, 09:36:26 AM »

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect the DNS-343 directly to the computer using the usb port?

I'm using one of those online storage services and I'd like to backup my DNS-343 but it doesn't work on network drives, only drives connected directly to the PC.

AFAIK, the USB port on the DNS-343 can only be used for Printers & UPS devices.

I assume you have tried mapping the \\dns-343\volume_1 to a drive letter (ex: F:).

Lastly, take time to review the confidentiality policies of the online storage services you chose.  With the new legislation, your data becomes publicly available to some agencies.

Cheers,

Is there any way that anyone knows of to be able to do this? I believe if I connected my dns-323 directly to my laptop via a usb cable the transfer speed would increase a lot from 5mbps which I get over lan.

Perhaps an addon or something?

Thanks!

No. The DNS-323 (and DNS-343) can only connect to a network via a switch or router using a network cable. The USB port port is strictly for printer sharing.
