Any way to make the LCD display stay on?

The subject pretty much says it all...is there any way to make the LCD stay on and display whatever you last viewed (i.e. bandwidth usage meter).  Looked all over the configuration and the LCD menu itself, didn't find any option at all.

It would prolly burn out too quick if left on.

This is something I want to see also, why make the led if you can not see it all the time...

Like dpotter said, it's an OLED display, it should last a long, long time.  The only potential restriction I see is if it consumes the CPU resources to leave it on.

"The biggest technical problem for OLEDs is the limited lifetime of the organic materials. In particular, blue OLEDs historically have had lifetimes of around 5,000 hours when used for flat-panel displays, which is lower than typical lifetimes of LCD, LED or PDP technology – each currently rated for about 60,000 hours, depending on manufacturer and model. But in 2006 experiments found that it is possible to swap the chemical component for a phosphorescent one, if the subtle differences in energy transitions are accounted for, resulting in lifetimes of up to 20,000 hours for blue PHOLEDs.[26] More recent work in 2007 by Cambridge Display[27] has extended lifetimes to 80,000 hours for blue OLEDs and for blue polymers for OLEDs, to 100,000 hours of life." -Wiki

Ok, so apparently OLEDs now last for 20,000 hours or better.

But it is still possible for the screen to burn, so I would go with that reason as to why they are not constantly on.

I was thinking they were more par with normal leds than that now but apparently not.  So it would burn out partway into the third year (unless it's the 80,000 hour one but I would imagine not).  I would still at least like the option to leave it on.

Even if they lasted 3-10 years they can still burn the screen, as DRT mentioned.

In earlier revs the screen had a two minute shutoff time and would leave "ghost" images eventually. Thats why we implemented the 30 second off time.

It would also be nice if it could stay on for a few minutes at a time instead of just a few seconds at a time. Sometimes I am testing different things out and would like to see what the router says, but the few seconds the oled stays lit is no where near long enough.

We can request a change be made to the firmware, how about a selectable timeout. Maybe like 30, 60 and 130 seconds. I'll look in to what can be done with the next firmware.

That would be a great idea, please suggest it.

If screen burn in is the issue, how about if stays on BUT alternates between a couple of different screens?  Like Device status, Internet speed, LAN speed, etc. Wouldn't that keep the burn in issue a mute point ?

has this issue ever been addressed?  if not are there any plans to add the ability to manipulate the display through the web interface?

just picked up two 4500's and would like the ability to set the display to always show the current throughput

to give you some suggestions about how a similar display format is used (granted its not networking) you may want to take a look at how the DashHawk is able to be configured to show user requested content
