Problems with Firmware 2.01 EU Hardware rev B1
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:26:47 AM »

Update:
I called D-link swedish support and asked for help. They will let me replace them for DIR655:s instead. I will lose a bit of money (655:s are about 300 SKR cheaper each) but getting rid of the 825:s will be worth it.

My last option otherwise is to try the new 2.01EU build 16 firmware that they gave me a link to.

Hello,
I recently bought 2 of these routers, 1 for me and 1 for my parents. They are both hardware rev B1. They were loaded with firmware rev 2.00EU at first. I have since upgraded? the firmware on my router to 2.01EU (Beta 15).

Now to the problems:

Both routers worked fine for a day or so after setting them up. After a day the wireless devices (one laptop with 802.11G card and a Popcorn hour A-110 media player with an N-adapter usbstick) lost internet access. I tried to locate the problem and it seems that the router fails to assign IP-addresses to the wireless devices. The wireless devices can see the network but not "get online". The only thing that seems to work is to reset the router and/or switch to a new SSID name.

I am using simple SSID:s with only normal characters, like ABCD5.

So, I got tired of losing the connection randomly and tried to find an updated firmware and found the 2.01 EU Beta15 on the english? site. I flashed my router with it, and now I experience massive lag when I'm playing online games, like 4-8 seconds of lag.

So, are there any settings that can affect the gaming lag (the game is World of warcraft)?
Is there anything I can do about the wireless connections dropping on me?

I had even worse problems with firmware 2.01EU (I think I tried both versions B12 and B15 which I could find), HW rev. B1. After the upgrade, I lost both wireless and wired connections to internet. Wired connection might stay up maybe for 0.5 seconds max, wireless didn't work at all. It seemed that the clients didn't get any IP address. Network status in the D-Link setup showed most of the time 'Disconnected' and even if it sometimes showed 'Established' there was never actually any connection available.

Downgrading back to the original 2.00EU solved the problems. I tried 2.01EU several times, but always with the same outcome. I did setup the system manually from scratch after each firmware update, and also tried the reset button to get a clean start. Nothing worked. Any ideas?

Bought my DIR-825 HW: B1 about 10 days ago.
Upgraded directly to Firmware 2.01EU Build15 from the German FTP Server. Configured the device and since then it is just running.
Haveing both WIFI Networks activated 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz since two of my newer laptops in my flatt, support 5 GHz WiFi.

Can't complain about anything. Watching Youtube, listening on Spotify, and internal LAN traffic, everthing works perfectly for me.

I have to add that although firmware 2.01EU (HW: B1) didn't work at all for me (see above), using 2.00EU has the problem that wireless connections break after a couple of days and requires reboot. That was the original reason for trying 2.01EU. So it's a dead end for me, DIR-825 2.00EU doesn't work properly but I can't update the firmware succesfully either :-[

So... I returned DIR-825 back to the store and switched to DIR-655 HW:A4 1.21EU. It has worked without problems now for three days. I know DIR-655 has its own issues, but 1.21 seems to have rather good reputation.

Have you tried to narrow down if one of the client devices is causing problems?  Take them offline one at a time and see if the problems disappears.  Also, look for upgraded drivers for your clients.  Maybe the USB N adapter has new firmware available??

Often times upgrading clients can resolve issues.

..using 2.00EU has the problem that wireless connections break after a couple of days and requires reboot. ...
The same problem I had two days ago. One of my WIFI-Signals just disappeared. I logged in on the second WiFi signal and rebooted the router. Will keep an eye on that, to see whether it will happen again.
