Please Help : I wish to expand the number of ports on my DIR-655.

OS : Windows Vista Home Premium - 64 Bit
Router : DIR-655
Firmware Version : 132NA
Hardware Version : A4

Hey guys, I wasn't sure which area to post this in but seeing as how it relates to my DIR-655 router, I assumed this forum was the correct one (sorry if I'm wrong).

I've got a DIR-655 router, and the number of ports on the back just aren't enough. I need to expand the number of ports. I've been thinking about getting the DGS-1008D to expand the ports.

All I'd like to know is, are these two units compatible? If not, what would you recommend to expand the ports on the back? Please advise.   ;)

Just go get any switch you want and plug it into one of the ports? Say so you go buy an 8 port switch that will give you 7 extra ports after connecting to the router....

Hi,

Just my 2 cents..but spend a few extra $$$ and get a unit with Gigabit ports...since the DIR-655 already has them....it makes for more better potentials....

DGS-1005D or DGS-1008-D. all are working with the DIR-655.
Just take any Gigabit Switch and connect it to the DIR.

Any switch will work, you don't have to get a dlink model if you already have something laying around. I agree get/use a gigabit switch if possible so your whole network will stay gigabit.

Yeah I figured as much, but would like to keep it within the D-Link family. I'm very happy with their products.  ;D

Also me i want increase port and speed so i want buy DGS-1008D ..... but a request. At this moment trough my D-Link 655 i can select for my machines, the network ip that i prefer.
Now if all my machine go all to the switch before and after this to my router, in which way i can selct for each machine the ip...there is a web interface in DGS ?? or i must set avery machine with static ip ??

I have all my LAN clients set on a static LAN IP....saves any headaches...also I know them by heart so I know which kid is on at what time....
