So my friend bought a DNS-323 from eBay the other day. He runs the latest ESU (downloaded from DNS-323 support software from DLink website) and it doesn't find the DNS. We pressed refresh a lot ... checked cables ... power ... everything!
I take it home and discover I can use the browser to configure it after hitting the reset button on the back. I was even able to format the hard drives. The only problem is that I can't map the drive anyway; the volume:1 doesn't appear on my Mac or my Windows XP machine.
I have my own DNS-321, and Easy Search doesn't find it anymore either. However, since I already mapped the drive, every computer in the house can see it and access it. The only thing that can't seem to see it is the so-called "Easy Search Utility." Of course, when I first got the 321, the ESU worked. But it doesn't anymore.
What is the story with this software and why doesn't it work? Also, is it possible to map the drive without Easy Search Utility? When I tried mapping network drive in Windows, the DNS doesn't show up ... but it does show up under My Network Places. It's the craziest thing ever.

Thanks everyone in advance!
(I even have the drive open, and ESU can't find it. I eject the drive, and ESU still can't see it.)
