Downgrading Firmware
« on: September 01, 2009, 09:10:18 AM »

1st post here, been lurking for a few months hoping to find a solution to the constant wireless drops. Nothing has helped yet.
I have hardware V3 and firmware 1.21. I believe I would like to try 1.11. Could someone post a link explaining how to do this? I have downloaded the firmware but not installed it yet, because I'm not sure if I need to backup anything.
I have considered trying 1.3x, but considering that once I do it I am stuck with I would like to try going backwards.

Thanks in advance,

You can't. just like 1.3x is not downgradable to <1.3x versions, 1.2x is not downgradable to <1.2x versions

escusse me ?

Since when was 1.21 not downgradable to 1.11 ?  What I miss ?
Not sure you can copy back a saved configuration file from a 1.21 to a 1.11 but far as I have ever seen, only the 1.3X FW prevent downgrading to an earlier version....

If I am incorrect I apologize...

A4 revision cannot downgrade to 1.11 due to different/new hardware components (and thus missing drivers in the older kernel)

Hi,

Thank you for that clarification...  I was not aware that the A4 version had that change.

Well I'm glad we are strait on if I can downgrade, now can anyone explain the process or post a link that explains it. I need to do something to get these drops under control. Is it the same as going from 1.11 to 1.21, or is there a difference because it is a downgrade.
By the way, I also bought this router after what I thought was pretty thorough research. I loved the thought of having a usb port on my wireless routher, but now I would just be happy with a router that doesn't disconnect from the internet a few times every hour I am using it.

Again, thatnks for any help you can provide.

Hi,

I would go thru the router set ups and see if any of the "tweaks" can get you stable rather than trying another FW...I say this mostly beacuse 1.21 is considered to be pretty stable by "most" folks in here....that is by no means a 100% rating....but a pretty good rating none-the-less....

For starters, I have my router set up in Vertical (with power port at bottom) position as opposed to horizontal to assist with heat flow inside the unit.  Then I have it plugged into my battery backup unit on a battery power plug, to help elminate any power fluctuations as potential problems.  Start with wireless encryption disabled until you get the thing stable.

Also make sure your ISP modem is also plugged into the battery backup power source, in a battery supported plug.

Microwaves, fridges,,,and the like can interfere with wireless signals.  ALSO check for 2.4GHz wireless telephones nearby....and any other wireless game controllers that use 2.4GHz signals....

In the advanced Wireless section of the setups, I use WLAN PARTITION - ENABLED (.11B and .11G and .11N devices are segregated by technology...IF I read the help file correctly)

Personally, I have moved away from .11B completely.  I only use .11G and .11N wireless devices.

Hope soemthing helps....  I surely know how frustrating these disconnects can be....

SD1,

thanks for the input. I'm trying your suggestions as we speak, I'll let you know how it works out.
BTW, you may notice I have a new username. For some reason my other username has been banned after only two posts asking for assistance in downgrading my FW. If any mods are reading this can you please explain this.
