Windows 7 and shareport utility
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:09:34 AM »

Hi,
has anyone experience how I can get the shareport utility working under Windows 7?
I have a DIR-655 with the firmware version 1.21EU. I have try the versio 110, 114 and 115 of the Shareport. The installation works fine but when I start the utility an error message say "SharePort Installation incomplete. Please reinstall"

Thanks for your help

1.10 works fine for me and I've installed on three windows 7 machines in the house.  maybe your download of the file was incomplete or corrupt?

check if you have the right admin rights to install. Done a load of W7 installs (from pre-7100 RC to current RTM) and all working OK.

Works well with DIR-825b and Win7 RTM...  You may have to run install as the administrator...

I'm getting the same error... I'm running Windows 7 64-bit RC1 wired. It works fine on my laptop which is also running Windows 7 wireless but it's 32-bit. Any ideas, thanks.

I run Win7 64-bit with no troubles (wired, wireless, RC and RTM). Try reinstalling with a manual delete of all leftovers.

I figured it out... goto "Devices and Printers", delete the printer/fax/scanner that points to the same hardware. Reboot the PC and startup shareport, this will reinstall all the drivers for the printer/fax/scanner. Hope this helps.

Hi,
thanks for your help. Now it works with Version 1.14 and Windows7 x64 DE RTM.
I have deleted all old entrys form the registry and folders before the I have done a new installation. Although the installation reports a unsuccessfull installation it works after a reboot.

Cheers

Nonsense. There's a 32-bit ánd a 64-bit installer in the same package. And they both work.

you are correct the 64-bit app works but getting the printer to connect under 64-bit will not work.

Hi,

I experienced major hassles with WIn7 X64 and Shareport for printing...wheras it worked fine under XP.

I was seeing all kinda of whacy printing output that others have been seeing as well...something to do with the spooler buffers if I had to make a symptomatic guess of some sort....

But my little $25 USB Print server has taken care of all that headache for now....  Maybe I'll revisit Shareport if they ever release a re-worked client...

Can you give a hint one what kind of USB print server you have?  Also, does your printer have a built in scanner and does it work?

This is pretty much what I got. It does return information like ink level on my Canon iP4500, so I would be doubtful that it would work properly for a scanner or multi-function all-in-one model at this price point.  I read they do make units that will pass data back to a PC but they likely cost more than the $25 I paid for mine.  Shareport (when working) DID do that much.

Just did some quick follow up....

If you NEED ink level and such to be sent back to your pc from the printer using a printserver gizmo, then make sure it supports BI-DIRECTIONAL data transfers.....  many do not !! As I have found out....not a huge thing for me, but ot might be for somebody using an all-in-one....
