DIR-655 & SecureSpot
« on: September 15, 2009, 01:22:52 PM »

We recently added a new piece of equipment which has a computer terminal attached to it.  The computer needs to be able to "phone home" to communicate information about the machine.  However, we do not want the operator sitting back there and surfing the net.

We installed a DIR-655 and signed up for the free trial of SecureSpot, and we can block access except for the sites we want.  If you surf to a blocked site, you get a big "BLOCKED" message.  Is it possible to hide that message, and just return a "website not found" error?

I'd prefer it to be a little less obvious and intrusive if at all possible.

We'd prefer a hardware based solution like this, but the implementation is a little inelegant.  I'd much prefer that my employees just get a webiste not found instead of a "Big brother is watching you and won't allow this website"!
