Vista to XP: Difference
« on: December 20, 2007, 07:06:24 AM »

Hey Folks, there's not much info in here, like some of your intense reviews and benchmarks.  Just a simple observation.

Working with the DIR-655, DNS-323 and Dell Draft N 1500 card.

In XP, I could never exceed the listed 130MBps connection speed.  Have the latest firmwares for all.  Installed Vista as a Dual boot using whatever driver vista installed for my wireless card, and I'm connected at speeds as high as I think 284Mbps or 264Mbps (can't remember exactly).

Speeds are only tested going from the DNS-323 to my Computer or vice versa, so I don't know how reliable that is, but I think it was using...wait now I can't remember was using (percentage wise of the network card).  I'll check tonight.

None the less, it was exciting to see the raise in speed, I'll have to see whether things were actually copy'n faster or not.

Unfortunately I seem to average about 15% which works out to about 40Mbps which is about the same as what i got when it was 130Mbps and like 30%

The windows copy utility it's really an acurate measure of network throughput.
There is a lot going on when that software is running.

I would look in to a network benchmark utility.
