DIR-825 Recovering After Power Outage
« on: September 17, 2009, 07:26:37 AM »

Question. I have had two power outages at my house in the last few weeks. Nothing major but afterwards my DIR-825 loses all connections and then only shows the single glowing light. No connections, no LAN, no anything. Last time I tried resetting, powering on and off, connecting to it directly. Nothing worked. I let it set overnight and then amazingly everything was back to normal the next day. Now today, the same thing. Is there a preferred method to recover from an outage. I am not at home and my wife would like to get back online. We tried unplugging it for 5 minutes and then restarting. Same. I do not want to tell her to reset it and then have to walk her through the setup. Any help?

Just a note. I let it set for a while power unplugged, then replug it the Dlink light and power light lit up. After the outage, only the Dlink light stayed on. I tried replugging the rj cables back in but then it went back to Dlink light only again. I unplugged it again and then replugged about an hour later. The Dlink and power light came back again. I let it set for 5 more minutes then the other WLAN lights came back on. I reconnected the rj again and it is good as new. Wierd. It will run perfectly till another power outage. It ran for 3 then 1 1/2 weeks before (so I don't suspect overheating). Any clues?

Borg,

One of the more experienced members will have to try and give you a direct answer bit I have a thought.

Power outages (it sounds like yours are fairly frequent) can do serious damage to electronic equipment when the electricity comes back on.  You'd do well to invest in an APC or other battery backup.  That would both keep your equipment running during short outages and protect from surges.  If the outage is lengthy the APC can shut things down safely.  The next best thing would be a good quality surge protector (not just a power strip).

Cheers

I do have a nice power surge strip so I am guessing that should not be the problem. I have only had about 3 power outages in the last year, it just so happened that 2 of them have been in the last month. Thanks for your reply. Just yesterday, my son unplugged the power strip and it did the same thing, when he plugged it back in. It just does not recover from losing power and then go back to where it was. Should I RMA this thing?
