 ???omg please help...... I just got my rma'd dgl-4500 and tried to install it using the disk , it does not connect to internet, using my westell modem my isp says it is dymanic so no password or login required but tech support keeps telling me it  need a password ect. very confused. it does not have a dns and will not clone my pc please help the old one connected with out all this messs(

Have you tried logging into the router using a web browser?

What type of connection do you have the router set to?  Have you tried doing a power cycle of the modem and then a hard reset of the router and see if it connects then?

no i have not done a hard reset of the modem not sure what that means verrry new to this stuff lol

Copy the MAC address of the PC you last connected to the internet with and then rerun the connection wizard in the DGL-4500.  Looks like your ISP is not releasing the previous connection data.  Copying your MAC address will make the ISP think its the same connection.

Did you by chance save a copy of your last configuration file?  You can reload it and restore your settings.  To clone is under basic network settings.

When you connect to the internet, the router collects information from your provider(ISP) for your settings, this is actually a 2 way street, the provider collects information from the computer or router thats connected to the modem(routers are basically small computers anyway). It sounds like your ISP is stuck on the last settings that worked.
     A hard reboot of your modem will most likely take care of this, unplug the power from your modem and leave it disconnected for a minute or two(rule of thumb is actually about 30 seconds), plug it back in and hope for the best
I had something similar happen a long time ago(years) and had to leave mine unplugged during the day, while i was at work so that I could get online again. I think it used to be a much more common problem, Im still using the same provider but now, i can replace my router with a different one any time and everything is fine.
