Should I stick with this?
« on: September 21, 2009, 09:02:04 PM »

Hey guys,

I'm currently running an A1 1.02.  I usually have problems a couple days after due to lots of torrenting with FIOS.  I get tremendous speed decreases and performance.  I usually cycle the router and it fixes itself.  However, even when I cycle or reset, the speed decrease doesn't go away.  Should I upgrade to 1.16b3?

If you upgrade beyond 1.02 you will never be able to roll back to it.  I would recommend that you do a hard reset of the router and then restore your configuration and see if that helps.  I ruined my a1 when I flashed over 1.02.  D-link shipped my a2 with 1.12 which I flashed to 1.16b3 but none of the fw seems to act right.  If you need a stable router that you can depend on 24/7 then get something else.

I would check if I had improperly configured my filesharing client.  ;D

Just curious, I just received my 4500 (have not opened it yet), and I am reading a lot of troubling issues with this model, not only from these forums, but other online review places as well. I read somewhere in this forum that a few people recommended the NetGear WNDR3700 N Router, would that be a viable stable solution to go to or would you guys recommend another wireless N router from D-Link?

I finally gave up on my DGL-4500 router today and just now ordered a NetGear WNDR3700 through Dell.

They're currently out of stock, but said I should have my new router by October 21st, just in time for my new copies of Windows 7 which I ordered through Amazon.com earlier this year. :D

I have an older Netgear Super A/G router and it has been very stable.

My 4500 seemed ok until I updated it and now... everyone here knows my pain.  I had planned on using the old router for A/G connections without the firewall and feed it off of the 4500.
Now I'm wondering what I can do since this is a year old.

Sloppy developers are ALWAYS that way.  Been that way with every group I've been in.
The D-Link development group clearly needs some housecleaning if they want to turn things around.

Amazon appears to have some.  The one I ordered last night is scheduled to arrive on Monday.

Go Figure!

Last I checked, they were still saying Out of Stock!

Oh Well, I can wait as I'll be doing a fresh setup of Windows 7 on each of my systems the day after the Router comes in :D

Newegg has the netgear and they've lowered their price a little bit.  If you belong to ebates then you can get another 1.5% off the price by going through them.  They still want too much compared to other retailers.

My NetGear WNDR3700 came in earlier this evening. :D

Set it up and most of the settings I left default although a couple I did change from their default setting.

This new router is Flying with no problems what so ever!

About the only things I'm gonna save from the DGL-4500 is the Atheros Wi-Fi card for my laptop and the antennas for who knows what.

My only complaint with the WNDR3700 versus the DGL-4500 is a little less granularity on the QoS controls.  I really liked the per IP basis for determine uplink priority.
