Wireless Connection issues with HP DV6000 and Dlink DIR-825
« on: September 22, 2009, 08:03:25 AM »

I'm currently having a lot of issues with the HP DV6000 laptop and the new DIR-825 Router I just purchased from Newegg.

The laptop will not connect wirelessly to internet on the router.  It can connect locally, but beyond that it continuously keeps trying to establish an internet connection past the local point (on Vista).

I've tried upgrading the laptop firmware, I'm on the latest DIR-825 firmware as of Sep 21, 2009, I've upgraded the Nforce 630M and Networking Controller drivers from Windows Vista.

I can actually connect TO the DIR-825 with another laptop that is using a N adaptor from Belkin (even though it's just next room and the signal is only 2 bars... wtf?).  So I know that router can provide wireless.

I've reset the router and cable modem, manually, unplugging the system.  I've also let the systems sit for over a day in hopes that it might be a need to sync up with the ISP to no luck.

Any ideas if it could be some form of issue with the 802.11G adaptor that the laptop has internally?  Could any settings within the DIR-825 setup screen fix the issue?

I hate to go through the hassle of sending the entire system back to Newegg if I can avoid it..

Got it.

Grabbed some advice from a commenter on Newegg suggesting a fix for the latest Linksys router.

For some reason it worked with the DIR 825.

"This router will not function properly under the defaults it ships with. Make sure you set the 2.4Ghz band to G-only and the 5Ghz Band to N-only, i also recommend setting the 2.4Ghz band to a specific channel (6 or 11) and the 5Ghz to wide channels."

Did this and I was able to connect right away.
