Xbox 360 + DIR-825
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:07:34 PM »

Dlink,

There is obviously a problem with the firmware that is not allowing us to connect to the Xbox 360. This is obviously a problem with the DIR-825 as many of us have documented that we have tried with the DIR-825 and after failure we re-attempt our original router and it works fine.

So I spent some time today locating some threads at other forums about this problem so you can see that we are all (and I mean a huge quantity of people) very eager to get the Xbox 360 working with our DIR-825.

Since I don't want anyone to be mislead and end up buying this machine without understanding the down falls I will also be posting about this problem at the forums on NCIX which is one of your larger distributors in Canada.

Thats just some of them. Whats interesting is the first one. There is already a FIX for this problem on the EU version firmware.

Can we install that firmware on our NA version? If not will the fix be included in the next firmware update? Is there a time frame that we can count on for a release?

Thanks in advance

DLink isn't talking about when, and if, a new firmware will be released.  Its been 3 months since V2.02NA so its high time they release something soon.  Users are bashing the product left and right on many forums due to the several nagging issues that many users experience.

The DLink engineers have their hands full these days with users complaining about several of the DIR series products.  Not sure how they plan to get out of this mess but they ought to act quickly.  I'm starting to think that their firmware programmers just aren't up to the task.  I'd love to get an Atheros Engineer on the phone to hear what they have to say about it.  If anything, right now DLink is giving them a bad name!

What kind of a sick joke is this? They clearly advertise that it's an optimal router for HD Videos and intense gaming... yet it cannot do it. Wirelessly, the XBOX360/PS3 will not be able to talk to the DIR-825. A europe fix was released months ago, yet nothing for US. Returning my router tomorrow  >:(

On July 29th, I wrote a personal message to Ru-Fi-Oh and Lycan.  Below is my message and their response.  (You can see that they know.  Since the above D-link post has been hit over 2000 times, ...IT MUST BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.  ...like the VOIP with SIP, ..like DNS Relay.)

I've tried to be patient, ...and now I'm back to my old DGL-4300.  (I've had my DIR-825 for 3 months without being resolved for this XBOX issue!)

Ru-Fi-Oh, Lycan,

Any news on the xbox360 wireless connection?  (DIR-825 - B1 - 2.02NA)
I see that someone else is having the same issue.
Would you like me to start a 2nd thread of this post? (since my 1st issues are resolved with 2.02NA)

Yeah please start a public thread so others can see it as well. Be as detailed as possible with yuor set up. It's better if issues are made public so we have proof to show of any failures and other users can comment as well.

I posted this more out of frustration than anything because I did spend probably 3-4 hours again yesterday trying to get it to work and after reading on many forums and looking at the reviews everyone says it supports all the gaming consoles etc.

I'm sure Dlink has sold 10000's of these. Even if 10% of us have an Xbox 360 or PS3 that is more then 1000 (which I would believe more than 50% are experiencing problems). If actually had the ability to return my unit and get another brand I would.

Funny thing is that I was going to get a WRT610N but someone on the forums at NCIX told me to stay away from Linksys since they were unstable. I sound have listened to one of my clients that told me to go with a NETGEAR which has the best performance at this time.

I want this DIR-825 to work because it would be really nice to have the two bands so I can segregate my MEDIA WIRELESS from regular WIRELESS. If the DIR-825 would do what it was advertised to do I wouldn't have a thing to say infact I would give Dlink a hug lol :)

I really don't want to have to go buy a DAP-1522 just to make this work. I like the DAP-1522 because it does actually have some nice features and for connecting a home theatre to a media server wireless it would be great.

Since my router won't even allow wireless clients to connect when the 5ghz band is on (which was evident when I tried getting my WRT54G to connect as a client bridge), it would almost seem almost pointless at this time to get a DAP-1522 since I won't even get to use the machine for it's full benefit.

Anyway thanks for the suggestion on the DNS Relay. I will try that out and see if by some chance it fixes the problem with the 5ghz band. If there is any change i'll report back.

Thanks in-advance.

I don't get it.  I have a DIR-825 connected wirelessly to an XBox 360.

I'm using a Linksys Dual Band N gaming adapter to connect the XBox.  I've used it both on the 2.4 Ghz band and now the 5 Ghz band, both work fine.  No lags, no NAT errors, it works great.

My son uses the XBox and I keep asking him if it's working and he reports that it's working fine.  We bought the DIR-825 to replace an older Linksys N router, that kept giving me all kinds of problems.

Also, while writing this post, I just checked my connection.  I'm on the 2.4 Ghz wireless and connected at 300 Mbps

This problem is linked to the XBOX 360 when using a Microsoft XBOX 360 wireless adapter.  When connected directly with ethernet, ...or connected with a different method (bridges or 3rd party adapters), the connection works fine.  (But I don't want to spend the money for something that should work!!)

well, then I really don't get it...  let me get this straight here...

I was saying the XBox 360 works fine with my DIR825 via a Linksys wireless gaming adapter both on the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands.  You said it works fine wired directly to the DIR825 or using any third party wireless adapter, but it doesn't work using the Microsoft wireless adapter.   Do you suppose there may be some problem with the Microsoft adapter?  From what you are saying, it works fine with everything but the Microsoft adapter...

Hey Guys,

I'm sorry this issue has not been having much attention to.

I wanted to let you know that we are working on a fix for the xbox 360 wireless adapter issue along with some VoIP issues.

Please be patient with us as we are testing this and will come out with code. Thank you!

The problem is only with the Microsoft Wireless adaptor and yes most likely the MS adaptor has some weird communication protocols but the fact that 99% of wireless routers out there work with the MS adaptor it seems that DLink either fixed the bug that allowed the ms adaptor to work. Someone had posted that the country code being sent from the adaptor was different then the way that it's sent from other adaptors but anyway it's something DLink is working on and they have acknowledged it.

Ru-Fi-Oh : Sorry I didn't see your reply until now. I do appreciate the reply and I will keep checking back.

Xbox 360 worked just fine with my old DIR-615 so I don't understand why it is taking so long to get it working with the 825.  I have also encountered a couple USB G adapters that absolutely refuse to work with the DIR-825.  I have had to put my old DIR-615 back in place to get everything to work.  Hopefully we won't have to wait long.

Ru-Fi-Oh - thanks for acknowledging this issue with the 825.  It's nice to know I'm not a misconfiguring moron... in this case, at least.

Is there an estimated release schedule for the update that includes this XBox 360 adapter fix?

Thanks,

I am quite interested in this as well, just purchased and set up a DIR-825 only to find out about this problem with the Xbox 360 wireless adapter.  It was easier to set up than going the linksys / DD-WRT path so I'll give it a few days for more news here before returning it.

Any update on this?  Is it possible to install the firmware I saw from another thread and fix this problem?  I just got this router today and will take it back in short order if this doesn't get fixed soon.

Guys I really doubt we'll see anything soon. Dlink has been working on a new firmware for months now and their last message was that they were going to release in july or august and that never happened so I guess it's just a matter of time and we have to wait and be patient. Thankfully my time spent on the Xbox 360 is next to nothing since I am too busy with life to play games and my original thinking that I could use it to play media from my media server failed even with a working bridge setup to use the ethernet from the xbox 360 and the sound was behind from the iamge on the screen and I don't have that issue with the XBMC original Xbox that I have in another part of the home with the same router bridge (i took it from the xbox original to the xbox 360 to test it and it sucked)
