my router still works.
« on: October 04, 2009, 07:38:09 PM »

So my router works, wish is not enabled neither is advanced DNS.  I have a few errors on wireless but very few.  My router is directly connected to the internet and has its own IP address.  (not a 192 address)  Logging is enabled.  I changed my wireless channel to 8.  As it gets less interference with my neighbors networks.  It is running in mixed mode.  For torrents my maximum connection is 850.  With a maximum of 125 per torrent.  With a limit of 30 uploads.  Let me know if this helps.

You deserve a special award for owning a 4500 that can stay up for more than a handful of days without locking up.  My a1 only managed it one time running 1.21na and it locked up on the tenth day and I unplugged it replacing it with the a2 d-link sent me.

No this is not photo-shopped.  I am just trying to help.  If you want to double check my settings just ask.  I am dead serious.  I mean it sucks for everyone else.  My router would have a longer uptime but I updated from 1.2 to 1.21 and I had to reconnect the Ethernet cable at one point.  I think my router might be some sort of key for the issue I hope.  Since mine is not having problems.

Very funny.  I was just as pissed as you after I updated my router and heard all the problems.  My wireless was constantly disconnected in 1.2.  I couldnt keep a connection for all of 6 seconds.  You cynics are so bitter you just gripe in these forums.  I don't blame you.  I would think an admin would ask me how my router is setup and why my router is running so long.  Or maybe ask me for a setup file.  Since everyone makes it sound like my router is the only one that works.  I dunno why it works?   Maybe an admin can get a copy of my setup file and find the magic problem they seek and fix everyone's routers.    Anyway if the admins and the users want to fight to the death that's all your issue.    I am just trying to help.

Showing the picture was only provide proof its still up.  All I did is offer assistance.  I explained my settings before hand.  As it was people responded saying it was BS or that dlink payed me.  These people don't want their crap fixed all they want to do is complain.    I know if I was in the same situation I would be doing everything I could to get my router up and running.  Afterward yeah I would be upset and give up.  My post was not meant to antagonize.  There has to be a pattern something, somewhere that is causing this issue.  Identifying that pattern is what will resolve it.  What is the difference between my router and someone elses.

I will now spam this thread with my settings.  I'll be pissed if I get banned for it.

...guess you missed the part where I said you are not the first to do this. as in you are not giving any new info.

Don't know who you may be referring to but I'm pretty sure people do want their router fixed. sadly it doesn't help them for someone to post pictures for show.

You may not know this, but many of us didn't have the major problems we have now with the router until f/w 1.20.

Just trying to "help" you understand just how pointless your pictures are at this time.

PM a mod/tech and see what they say.

Last thing, congratulations on a DGL-4500 that can go past 10 days. It's not no one believes you, they just don't care.

This is firmware 1.21 so your gripe that many did not experience this issue until 1.2 is valid but in my case I am already running the latest firmware, or the same firmware.  So maybe there is a setting on it is all I am saying.  Whatever feature I don't have enable or I do have enable may be the key.  I don't want congratulations.  I just want the thing fixed so should I reset my settings I don't have the same issue as everyone else.

Also what you don't understand is I was having the same issue with 1.2 initially.  It was locking up every 3 or 4 days.   I just kept changing the settings and hoping.  I don't know what I changed but something I turned off is stopping it from locking up.  For all your rudeness I am not doing this to brag.  I am saying somewhere in my router is the key or the root cause of this and its disabled or enabled or something.  I bet if you took my same settings into your routers it would work.   If you want I could change my password to something generic and create a config file I can upload with the settings.  You can use this config file and try it on your routers.

Well we understand that you're getting it to work but with many advertised features disabled and that is not what we all paid good money for.  D-link has been too silent on this matter for too long which makes me wonder what they're going to do for us.

Well honestly not of the features are ones I would use.  Wish, Advanced DNS, Captcha.  I was just stating my settings.  There has to be a root cause.

I'm running 1.21, and my uptime has on occasion been for days or even weeks.  I'm still not happy with the router or firmware and will be replacing it with a non-dlink router tonight.

Uptime doesn't mean performance.  It would be pathetically easy for me to keep my router running for days, but I assure you the bits I've pushed through would be minimal at best, without high burst activity.

Any time I've pushed the router it would lock up.  Considering the main reason as to why I got the router was due to its performance metrics when compared to other routers puts me in an untenable position.   What's sad is I have most of the features disabled on the router.  I don't enable wireless or DNS (much less advanced DNS).  I can easily lock the router up by doing large scale file copies from one machine to another on 100Mb.  The router is is gigE rated and it can't handle 100Mb.  Simply playing a movie on my ps3 via media share stresses the router to the point where I can't be doing anything else at the same time.  I can get around this via restricting my network related activities, but why should I?

I have the same settings as you and my router locks up.

It is not a setting.
