DIR-655 Date/Time always falls out of whack
« on: October 08, 2009, 11:01:27 PM »

Is anyone else experiencing strange dates and times associated with their router?  Whenever I've reset the router, I ensure that the day and time are copied from my computer and saved.  However almost every week or two, I notice its like 2 or 3 days off.  I can understand a few minutes of lag over time but 2 or 3 days???  For example, I rebooted the router a week ago, and set the date and time and saved it.  I checked the logs to ensure that the setting saved.  Fast forward to tonight.  I just looked at the router and the time AND the logs were reporting Tues, Oct 6th.  I updated and saved.  Could this be a sign of something internally going south?

Here is a copy of the log where I just updated the time... again.

Do you have it setup to use an NTP server to sync time?
If not, do that and it should solve your problems.

No, I didn't think I'd need it.  Then again, I didn't think it would get 2 days out of sync in 7 days.  Maybe I need to set that up.  Should I choose one of the drop down servers or should I pick another?  I'm really not up to speed on NTP servers.

Better in what sense? You get more time? Time running more slowly?  ;)

I'm happy with the default dlink time server . It never failed me all you have to do is adjust manualy the Daylight Saving with the ones in you're region and you're set.

I've noticed that on mine too. I have access control setup with a time based schedule for my daughters PC. She got blocked one day at the wrong time and it took me a while to figure out why my schedule didn't work right. I had set the time when I created the schedule. After having to adjust the time a couple of more times I just enabled the NTP server (default one). It's been fine since then. If theirs no internal battery for the clock I can see it getting screwed up every time there is a power bump or you power cycle it. If there is a battery mine must be dead.

There is no battery.
The router looses time with each restart.
It will be set to firmware default date or the date you saved the last change to the non volatile memory.
