I've been up for a day, with all my original settings intact.  This includes me using GameFuel rules again, as well as WISH, and DNS relay, which was previous turned off for functionality.  So far so good.  I'd like to see it last 31 days.

And just for your information folks, I'm pretty sure that Ru-Fi-Oh mentioned that once it's released, it will be released as a Beta.  I don't think he mentioned it being made an official/final release.

And since it is a Beta, it should be treated as such.

As many have stated any improvement, beta code or not, is welcome.

Okay I have just one question. I should be getting my new DGL-4500 in a few. (waiting on UPS) I thought this thing would be the answer to my problems as I have three xboxs trying to run SBL. So do I upgrade the firmware yet or just work with what I got for now. I have the DGL-4300 and it works like a champ until I turn on the 3rd xbox. I have to play my Madden so I had to have the kids turn one of them off. So you can see why I fell for this thing. I hope this beta firmware works. Any advice out there?

I would really like to know how the wireless holds up,  I setup a pc for gaming with wireless and a boosted antenna where I received 98-100% signal all the time and every 5 minutes or so gaming it would lag for up to a 2 second or so lag.  Previous router never did that but the previous router always casued me issued with DHCP over wireless unless it had been rebooted every few days.

I do have an XBox 360, so I could do some testing over that.  However, I don't have my subscription to XBL active at the moment, since I've been working.  ;)

However, I will definitely test gaming over wireless.  It'll be used in a N/G environment, with WPA2-AES only.

Latency is always a problem over wireless, and forever will it be.  Especially over N, and high throughput devices.  But, I will definitely see if it's an improvement over dropping and huge spikes.  Overall, it should be fairly consistent.

Yep is not a final release kinda why they call it beda but once they have the major problems ironed out they can work on fixing other smaller issues with it. Yea would be nice if it does last 31 days plus even at least then we will know that the lockup problem is fixed. Like the first post said it will be released on the forum and most likely will not be in the DGL 4500 firmware web page but we will just have to wait and see.

BAD 4500 performance & firmware 1.21
« Reply #37 on: October 16, 2009, 01:09:53 PM »

Please let me know about beta FW and testing. I've got a buddy in OK that has the 4500 and for some reason, he's the only one out of 4 of us who own this router that seems to be having issues. Both he and I are on the same FW, 1.21. Not sure what my other 2 buddies are running, I think there factory FW since I don't think there heavy into tweeking like we are. LOL.

He's having more disconnects and xbox showing closed NAT messages. I spent 7 hours over the MSN messenger walking him thru a full factory reset and turning off SPI, Dyn Frag and setting up Gaming, GameFuel and IP reservations for his 3 xbox 360s and a PC. All seemed to go well until last night and day before. He's telling me that gaming was good then, seems to be laggy at times, even if not playing with others, then as of last nite, they were in a match and got booted and said that xbl was disconnected. Seems like my fix worked for a while then deteriorated after about a week. He's on DSL and there is only one phone on the line and is filtered. He's called the DSL and Phone company and of course they say all there stuff is fine. Ya, ok.

As for me, I haven't seen this kind of issue on FW 1.21 however at times, I do have to power cycle the 4500 due to that just coming home from work and wanting to get email or web, the browser just sits there.

Also can any one direct me to a thread on here or give FULL details of what optimal settings should be used for XBL and Halo gaming? I've found a few things regarding gaming and game fuel. Just Would like D-link and or other XBL Halo gamers to let me know what works best. Routers are being used for internet part of the time but most gaming. My buddies 4500 has 3 xbox 360s connected, 2 wired, 1 wireless. The wireless one seems to function fine over the wireless connection however is effected by the unknown lag or disconnection of the router and internet. PLEASE let me know and thank you for your time and efforts.

For D-Link Tech Eng's. I'd volunteer my testing and computer expertise if I could join the beta team in testing your products. Please let me know if there is a way to join up. Thank you. Hope to see a fix soon.

Okay I just finished hooking up my new 4500 and it came load with fw1.12 so of course I had problems right of the back. But the major problem I had was connecting back to the internet. long story short, the more changes (Ones suggested from this forum) I made the worse is got. So I went back to fac setting and loaded the current fw (1.21NA). I don't know about everyone else but my stuff is smoking. I have 1 wired, 3 wireless laptops running at the same time, 1 wireless HTPC and I tested three xbox's (2 playing ODST and 1 playing Madden 10). I didn't do anything special just made my settings look like my old 4300. I had no lag playing madden with just 2 xbox's running and alittle with the 3rd running Now I do understand that this is my first day so I will keep my fingers crossed. Oh and the Shareport works great. My HTPC is wireless N with a connetion somewhere btw 270mbps and 300mbps. Can't steam Bluray, to big but the dvd's that I have, which is of course less fps, stream with no problems. I will report back if issues pop up but so far so go. This forum had me worried.

Thanks for reporting, the forums have me worried as well, so worried that I have yet to open my 4500.  Was waiting to hear about this "beta" FW fix just in case I was to encounter the issues described by many.

You say your buddy is using a DSL connection. What make and model is his modem? With his router in play what is the first 2 octets of his WAN IP address from the status page of the router?

Ru-Fi-Oh, is there any word on this beta FW being made available today?  Did the numbers hold up to the 80% or whatever you mentioned a week ago?

okay i am going on 7 hours, I know not much but my sons have came and  told me they notice the differents. They are much happier with this router so far. I played two complete games of Madden online while my kids were on there xbox's and wife on her laptop. No hang ups at all. Keep in mind I only have a 5mb pipe. Only thing I can say is keep your settings simple. If you don't understand what it really does don't click it. Now if you are willing to go without then so be it make as many changes you need to get the QoS you're looking for. The world stops turning in my house when the net goes down. I will say this I am runnig stat ips. ANd this DNS Relay issue, I don't see it still checked on mine.

One last thing. I DO NOT SUPPORT ANYONE! So please do not think this is some type of fan support for dlink. I am just putting it out there straight. I am only speaking for myself.
