Suggestion
« on: October 09, 2009, 05:31:37 PM »

Hi, I just bought a DNS-323 yesterday. I have a suggestion that hopefully will be added in the future. There should be support to have an external hdd that could backup what is on the internal hdd. That would be more useful than a print server for me. I bought the nas mainly for storage for the small business for the artwork department. It is important that the data is safe so I did a raid 1. However, it would be nice to have another copy of it in another drive which is though external hdd.

One more time -  ;D - RAID is not a backup, if you want your data to be safe, you need to back it up, even if you have a RAID array.

And YES - I agree with you, being able to hand an external USB hard drive off of the back of the DNS-323, and back up to it from the admin menu would be a perfect way to backup.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

You better read his response again, that's not what he said!  ::)  RAID of any level is NOT backup!
