pre-OS mode of Drive Clone Pro 5 which came with DNS323
« on: October 10, 2009, 12:33:51 PM »

I've been using Drive Clone Pro 5 which came with my DNS-323 and have set it up to automatically back up all my critical files to the NAS everyday. However I do manual imaging of my boot partition to the NAS. Two days ago I tried to restore the whole boot partition and so I entered the pre-OS mode. However things fell apart after I had picked the partition image file, which was under "Volume1\Backup" on the NAS, to be restored. DriveClone Pro popped up a window for me to input Username and password. The NAS is running raid 1 and has only one volume. The whole volume is set up to be open to all user accounts under NETWORK ACCESS. I was at a loss what Username and password I was suppose to use. Anyone can help me out here? Thanks in advance.

Which firmware version are you running? The 1.08 beta handles access to shares differently in certain circumstances. Did you try entering any of the credentials for users you have setup on the nas?

Hi jamieburchell,

My firmware is version 1.06. At first I did not have any user defined and the whole volume was open to all accounts. Later on I defined one user and assigned access right of the backup folder to it. Needless to say, entering this username and password in Drive Clone Pro did not get me through.

Any anti-virus software on your PC?

I am using avast! However, correct me if I am wrong, I don't believe it would run in Drive Clone's pre-OS mode.

No. Actually everything was okay initially. I went through pretty much the majority of restoring procedure and got to the point of selecting the previously made partition image file to be restored. During the process I clicked "Local network area", and after Drive Clone had connected to the network, went on to pick the image file stored on DNS-323. However Drive Clone then popped out a window requesting UN and PW, which I could not get straightened out.

Have you tried support from Farstone? Unfortunately I am not to familiar with this software I have used it briefly, haven't done a restore like this.

Could not get much help from Farstone. I asked them the question and somebody responded back suggesting me to map the image file folder. However this function is not even available in Drive Clone Pro 5.
Anyways I've switched to Norton Ghost v14.0 and so far it is being working fine as long as I manually load network card driver in Win PE environment.

I've used Acronis True Image for years, including to/from the DNS-323, and it's always worked well with no issues.

Seconded.

Lixx...
I'm wondering if Drive Clone Pro 5 was using FTP for the file transfers.  Did you try using "Anonymous" (with cap "A") for the UN and leave the PW blank?

Hi DocD,

No. I didn't try that. Never thought it would use FTP to access NAS.
