DWA-130 REV C1 Problems
« on: October 13, 2009, 07:39:29 PM »

Hello,

My DWA-130 Rev C1 works flawlessly upstairs in my quad core computer while gaming but on my pc downstairs the adapter suddenly disconnects and turns off. Anyone have any clues as to why?

Upstairs pc is using Win764Bit, downstairs Win732Bit. On the upstairs computer i attached the adapter to my usb hub instead onto the tower itself. Also I cannot connect more than 54mbps upstairs. Downstairs is limited to 24mbps.

Thanks,

I'm experiencing connection issues as well using the same adapter/revision.  Occurs on both Win7 32bit and WinXP 32bit.  I'm still in the "researching the issue process" and came across this post which might be an issue I'll have to check into: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=1831.0

My connection issue is that the connection out to the internet will work fine for maybe 5-10 minutes and then will no longer be able to get out. The adapter stays connected to the network during this time (I can still connect to the router but just won't go out to the internet). To fix I disconnect the adaptor via Safely Remove Hardware next to the clock, remove and reinsert the adapter. Rinse and repeat every 5-10 minutes :-) And as I stated previously, tested on 2 different PC's, one with Win7 32bit and one with WinXP 32bit.

The common factor I need to check into, and that is stated in the above link, is that both machines are running McAfee Security Suite (the one provided for free as a Comcast customer).  I had no problems with this adapter in the first 3 months after purchasing it, then all of a sudden I start experiencing connection issues and I've made zero changes to the components of my network.  So I'm beginning to think McAfee pushed out an update recently (I've noticed the connection issue for the past 1-2 weeks), causing their software firewall (as stated in the above link) to block internet access.

Once I get home and can do some more trouble shooting, I'll report back what I find out.

Neither computer has a firewall other than the default Win7 firewall.
All my firmware is up to date.

Unless maybe the USB powered wifi cards are not good period?
Or Should I give up and take this back?

send it back. I had the C1 and it is the worst adapter version I saw. The A1 and B1 worked great and run  at 300 mpbs through the entire house using a dir-615. The C1 does not have some of the option that the A1 and B1 have. Very disappointing knowing that Realtek is the manufacturer for that one.

By the way, the C1 never went over 54mpbs when I had it.

Well this sucks, I bought it from my own store and we do not have any say on which revision i can order in >_<. So far I only have all C. That would explain why all the refunds for this sku. All this time i thought it was user error. But I guess not.

nope the C never worked right for me and I tried everything but you could not even choose the channels width..bad product. There is a D revision available, but I don't know how good it is.

If C revision is so bad, then why the h**L has D-link not stood up like a good company should and recalled them... >:( never mind still allowing retail sellers to continue to sell such a faulty and headache ridden product.

I think that it may be a Windows 7 compat. problem. It's the only reason I haven't upgraded to Windows 7. ;)
