Set up GameFuel for low priority backup?
« on: October 15, 2009, 09:25:34 PM »

Any clues as to how to best set up the DGL-4300 to allow any traffic from any device to take priority over a background online backup process?  I currently have Manual Uplink Speed set to 512 (out of 1Mbps upload) and this seems to work pretty well for when other devices want to download something, but the backup program I use (DeltaCopy) will take as much bandwidth it is given, and even though the upload is "capped" at 512, other apps upload at about 128.

Stinks for e-mail and what not.

Ideally, the rules would be set up to have the backup process take the least amount of bandwidth when my family is playing games, streaming movies, Facebooking, etc, but then automatically take as much as possible when everyone goes to bed.

I have 4 PCs (2 wired, 2 wireless), a PDA (wireless), DirecTV (wired), XBOX 360 (wired), a NAS (wired), and an 8 port gigabit switch all connected to the router and I'd really like to not need to set a rule for each one individually.

Thanks in advance!
Jeff.

Manually setting uplink speed at only half of it's capable speed isn't a good idea. The other half bandwidth would never be used no matter how busy your uplink traffic is. You just need to find out what the dest. IPs and ports the backup program uses and set up a rule to have backup traffic lowest priority.
