I would like to make a request for FW Ver 1.04... PLEASE!!!!

#1) Could you please allow users to be created with spaces in their names?
(for example: I have to enter user JOE BLACK as JOEBLACK - but his user name on a windows XP system is JOE BLACK so he has to log in to the nas-321 every time!)

#2) Could you please allow a single user to belong to more than one group?
I tested today with FW1.03 and made two groups and when I added the same users to the first group and then added them to the second group they only appeared in the second group.

Just one more question... I can't seem to find the setting for power state - Should I want the DNS to stay off after a power loss or last state when power is restored. Is that an add on?

Well, I share your pain, but in truth you don't have to login to the NAS every time, I faced the same situation.  If you save the JOEBLACK credentials on the system in question, it'll connect automatically, I do this all the time.  This works for 2K, XP, Vista, or Win7.

Good question, this would be useful, and I'd use it.

I believe you have to have a Rev. C hardware box for this to work, maybe D-Link will come along and confirm or dispute that.  Unless you have a new box, that will probably never work.

I understand what you are saying but that would require me renaming all my user accounts to a ONEWORD setup on all XP systems and I would then in turn have to rename all user access accounts on my network share devices. More work that just having users type a password to access shares on the DNS-321 and they can return to them until they log out of the work station and they then have to repeat the process when they log back in. Also, I am stuck not being able to fully use the NAS because of the Group issues too! So far the updates in 1.03 seem to be working! Knock Knock on wood!

I don't think I'm getting through.  My user name on all my computers is a name with a space.  However, Windows from 2K onward is able to save credentials for a share that doesn't match the user name.

If I have a login name here of Joe Blow, and my share name on the NAS is joeblow, all you have to do is tell Windows to save the credentials when prompted for a name/password to access the NAS.  Any accesses after that will use the saved credentials and you'll get no prompt for a password.

It works for me on both the DNS-321 and DNS-323 from 2K, XP, Vista, and Win7.

Thanks for the input John but I don't want my users saving passwords network resources. Besides if the PC becomes hacked that info could fall in to the wrong hands. (We know that windows is secure  )
On the flip side of that some of my users have problems if someone else logs into their system.
I want it to be as easy as possible for them and me for management.

I think this is a "you want your cake and eat it too" scenario.   I believe that one reason for the no spaces in the name is a SAMBA limitation, since I had the same issue with my Linux installation.

You might be right!
I have to say though that I have read forums from other rouge sites that tell you how to reconfigure that other NAS (Starts with a L and is owned by them switch people) because it's OS is a Linux based. I also manage that one and it's still stock and there is no problems with it and spaces in the users names (or groups). But I guess we will have to see what D-Link does. If I get the Groups fixed in the next release that would be nice. Just keep spoon feeding me my cake!

I wish I weren't, because I was reluctant to change all the account names in my network, and then get all the applications working again!  I was bummed out when I found out that Linux can't deal with spaces in the name...
