I'm not writing this to bash D-Link or anything ... just want to share my experience because I've solved my problem. D-Link seems to have laid an egg with the 655 but I've used a lot of their stuff and overall, and before the 655 my experience was pretty good.
A couple of weeks ago I finally gave up on the DIR-655. The 1.32NA fiasco left me with a router that was virtually useless and given that I run my phones through the internet, I had to do something. I bought the Linksys/Cisco WRT610 wireless N router and wow, what a difference! The range is awesome and I haven't had a single outage. Amazon sells these for $80! Those of you who say that D-Link is ruining your life should seriously consider it. My experience has been so good (range, speed, stability etc...) that I'd recommend it even for those not experiencing major issues (for instance, in my case my laptop connects so much better than it did to the DIR-655 that I can keep a VPN connection open for days whereas before it would drop and reconnect almost continuously).
I haven't really dug into all the features. I don't use a lot of them myself - I use the router as my DNS server for all my computers, I run DHCP, NAT, and that's about it -- so I'm just looking for a good solid router/firewall with a wireless N that can support a lot of devices (I probably have about 20+ devices on my network). Also, I'm only using the 2.4GHz spectrum as I found it to be much better than the 5GHz stuff.
