DIR-655 with speedsteam 5360
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:06:06 AM »

Hi

I currently have 2wire 2701 with sympatico, and changing ISP soon. so i bought speedstream 5360 and DIR-655
I connected everything, ran setup, verified user name/psw is enter into router, dhcp is enabled but my router doesn't connect to the modem.
I verified the modem by connecting ONLY the modem to my desktop (win xp sp3), setup the connection manually, everything works fine, as soon as connect router, no connection.
i tried everything i could, but still i am missing something.

Please help, any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Simply follow the step-by-step instructions on the D-Link Setup CD that came with the Router. Works real good.

Start with the Cable Modem connected directly to the Computer. Make sure you are online and insert the CD and run it.

What has happened was your 2wire and perhaps your PC's Mac is registered with Sympatico.  If you "cloned" your MAC address of your PC in the Dlink router setup, it should work.  Otherwise, just phone tech support and tell them to delete your existing Mac and use your new router's Mac.  Should work.  Good luck.

Thanks guys
I tried to set it up myself, but it wasnt working, and i did clone my MAC ID, and still got no connection.
I ran the setup CD today, as thecreator suggested, now everything works fine, and i know what was wrong.
When i set it up, i configured it as DHCP when i should have made it as PPPOE connection.
so, for next time, DHCP is for cable, PPPOE is for dsl
Now there is another thing that bother me, i saw a line there saying change key every the default for 3600 seconds.
will i have a drop connection because of that? should i change it? because i have couple PCs at home, wireless, and they are on 24/7, so in case i have a drop connection, is there an option i should change somewhere?

Thanks a bunch
