Setup Problems with Windows 7
« on: October 31, 2009, 06:51:58 AM »

I have two laptops now running W7.  One one laptop, the install worked fine:  I downloaded the setup from the print server setup screen and ran it.  Installed fine and printer works great.

On my second W7 laptop, I repeated the process, but as it begins to install, I get the following message:

"Cannot find a pre-installed driver for DESKJET 960C (my printer).  Please insert the driver cd that
    shipped with the printer..."

Anyone know why I am getting that on only 1 laptop and not the other?  It looks like it wants to install as a local printer, not a network printer.  Not sure where to go from here...

Would appreciate any help!

Thanks.

I was able to set up a HP950 series printer by turning it on and manually installing printer via IP address. But the PC wired directly to 1260 was only able to install buy moving PC to other room and repeating from first pc. Wireless only.

With windows 7 32 or 64 I have had a connection to my main router problem. Can only connect on a limited basis.

I've had the same issue trying to install a Brother MFC 7420.

I have 2 printers connected to the 1260; Canon i9900 and the Brother. The Canon installed fine using the setup from the Dlink (using the existing, preinstalled driver.)

Trying to install on 2 computers; XP Pro x64, XP Pro x86.

Using the Dlink setup, I WAS able to get the Brother installed on the x86 version by plopping the original Brother Driver CD in the drive and pointing setup there. (oh, Win7, you prolly don't have a cd for that.)

The 1260 setup keeps getting hung up tho when I point it to downloaded drivers. It will NOT accept those drivers that are downloaded directly from Brother...dammit.

Do you have an original driver disk that you can point dlink setup to? (oh, Win7...just reread your post.)

On the laptop that is NOT working...has that printer ever been physically connected to it? If not, try physically connecting that printer to it, print a test page. Move the printer back to the dlink and go through teh setup again. Perhaps setup will THEN see the existing driver has already been installed.

Good luck!
