Error on one drive
« on: November 07, 2009, 03:38:59 AM »

Hi,

On one of my 2 1Gb drives, I have a folder which contains other folders. I cannot delete it (nore the sub ones), either with Windows (it does nothing) or linux (Input/Output Error).

Except this problem, the drive seems to work fine. The other drive works fine too.

Do you know what is the problem ? Do I have to reformat this drive  (and how if so) ?

Thanks

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question.  But I have the same problem.  I have the snapshot.sh app doing the rsync thing from one drive to another, and as that second drive filled up, I've tried deleting some of the older backups (found another shell-script that I run), and I'm getting that same error.  What happens is there is a complaint about a folder not being empty.  When I try to do the common things like "rm -rf", etc, it won't run.  When I go to the offending folders, I can't do the "ls", as I get the same result as you.

Running the beta 1.08 firmware, and the latest funplug, with all the updates I believe available for the applications I have loaded on my dns 323.

I'm able to delete a lot of the older backups, just some give me that complaint.

Hope to see someone with more brains and talents than myself who can provide an answer for us.

What file types are in these folders and were they created by an app on the PC and saved directly to the NAS or to the PC then moved. Also what type of PC or Mac was used?

Well, in my case, I know one of the files is in the man3 directory (hence, a manpage).  And some of the files would have been from the system folder of a windows xp computer, and some other miscellaneous directories came up in the complaint message, when I tried deleting.  I've ssh'ed into my dns323 box from both my macbook pro, and from a windows xp desktop machine, I'm not trying to delete the files using a delete command from either the windows or mac computers.  I've not tried to delete the original files from HD_a2, the complaints are about the files that were rsync'ed to HD_b2 during the snapshot.sh operations.

Hi,

I have deleted the files inside the faulty folders, so no problem with any files, it's the folder that cannot be deleted. They have been created by Cobian Amanita (backup app) from a PC Windows Vista directly to the NAS through the network.

Try resetting the unit to factory defaults and see if the folder will now delete. If this does not work do you have and alternate computer to use? Power down the PC that created the folder and use another PC to delete the folder.

I got tired of seeing the error messages of folders or files that couldn't be deleted, and finally did a backup of what was in the drives, and have done a reformat of both drives (ext3 this time, just for experimentation sakes).  Now am in process of reinstalling funplug, and will install rsync and my backup shell scripts, etc.

After all this, I hope it works the way I want it to, without the errors.

Log into the unit and goto Tools and System you will find it there. It will not effect the date on the drives in any way.

I understand it does not affect the dates nor data on drives, but what else does this action affect ?
Thanks.

It will change all the configuration settings to default. will not modify your date on your drives.

Hi,
I have done this and it is the same.
To sum up my problem : I backup files from one drive to the other, using Cobian Amanita (backup application) from a PC Windows Vista directly to the NAS through the network. It worked fine, but since some months, it bugs for some files. The DNS-323 enters in a dead loop. I have to restart it to recover it. What can I do ? How to know if the drive is faulty ? Do I have to reformat it ?
