Can someone from DLink PLEASE respond in this forum?
« on: November 10, 2009, 12:01:06 AM »

I need the firmware update that will fix the web filters that were broken in the last two firmware releases.  I asked nicely when the next update will be and, nothing.  I've e-mailed tech support on my open case and, nothing.  I've called tech support and get no help.

I purchased 42 of these units because of the web filtering ability (white list instead of black list).  It worked on v. 3.01, however, no error message is displayed telling the user why they are not connecting.

DLink, I've been a customer of yours since 1998.  Please don't disappoint by ignoring your customers.  Fix the issues and get firmware out there that doesn't break something else.

So I guess the answer is NO.  Another obvious sign of the lack of customer service to be expected from this company.

What a shame.

What exactly is the issue your facing with filtering? Does it just not work?

I've had the following case open with DLink for over two months:

DLK400455898

Using firmware (3.11)

If I choose to use a white list of web sites available to my end users, any sites that use JavaScript are not processed properly.  One site in particular is where we place our orders for the products we sell.  We can place the entire order, but when we press submit, the process gets locked up.  By either using firmware 3.01 or turning off the filter list, we can process orders normally.

I have 40 sites where the DIR 615 is installed.  The majority have the upgraded firmware.  The sites with the old firmware continue to work fine.  The only issue I see with 3.01 is that when the white list is enabled, the user is not presented with a screen explaining why they cannot browse to an unapproved site.  IE simply shows a white screen and never moves on.

Can you give me an example of one of your blocked/allowed websites.
I'll test it here.

This would need to be done in a PM.  I'd also need to know who you were and when we could schedule this.  I would have to give you my username and password for ordering.  Please let me know how this can work between the two of us.

Thanks.

Just provide the website name you're trying to filter and we'll set it up here and test it.

If it's a privately owned site there's not much we can do unless you want to allow us access.

I sent PM but got no reply.  I cannot share my login credentials in an open forum but would be happy to do so in private.  Please reply.

Was this ever resolved with 3.11NA because I cannot get filters, port forwarding, DMZ to work.
Filter, try to block access to sites like google for all machines, result all machines still have access.
Port forwarding, try to forward ftp to internal machine, result its still blocked.
DMZ, try to place internal machine outside firewall, result all services on the machine still blocked.

I have even tried to do my testing all locally to rule out any internet connection issues.
I have the following test environment

server on lan side (gets LAN IP from dir615)-> dir615 <- server on wan side (gives WAN IP to dir615)

LAN and WAN side are on separate networks with unrelated IP addressing, routing tables look fine and LAN server can PING and access WAN server, but not the other way around since NAT and the firewall are enabled. So all is good as far as basic routing, natting, firewalling is concerned.

At least confirm that there is an issue that being resolved so I can rest the testing.

hey he's right, website filtering doesn't work. I can block a site, and still access it.

Well this is just great, I've wasted my money on a totally useless piece of crap. Now I have no way of blocking certain sites from my 8 year old daughter.

Thanks DLink, for building the s***tiest piece of s*** I spent $40 on. nice to have wireless network, but this makes me wonder just how secure it actually is now. if that stuff doesn't work, what else doesn't?

I tested the Web Filter (blocked a test URL) and it worked for me (I have Hardware Version: C1,   Firmware Version: 3.11NA).   You have to enable Access Control, after you set the Website Filter.  You do not have to enter http:// before the URL.  Also, just enter the domain, i.e.  cnn.com, instead of www.cnn.com

I also wanted to note that the problem seems to occur mostly when you set the policy to "any computer"

well I enabled access control, but I didn't set up a policy or anything. I added google to be denied, and it's still available.

do you have to have a policy?? if so then what's the point of having website filtering separately?

EDIT

alright, I have to formally retract my harsh words before, and admit that I was simply being stupid. You do infact have to have a policy for a machine, or multiple machines, and then you can apply the website filtering to that policy, or port filtering, MAC filtering etc. the policy uses the list of filters.

So now I feel stupid and have made an ass of myself due to my own n00bishness.

Also, a message does indeed come up stating that the computer is not allowed access to the site. This is REV C1, 3.11NA

To "forumuser",

I enabled the MAC Filtering and the Web Filtering is working okay.  I was only using the DHCP Reservations List, before I enabled the MAC Filtering.  On the Access Policy, I used the IP option.  As you mentioned, the "Other Machines" options did not block the listed URL's, but it worked with listing, either an IP or MAC Address.
