Issues connecting DAP-1522 and DIR-825 - 5 GHz
« on: November 12, 2009, 04:56:34 PM »

I am trying to connect my DAP-1522 with my DAP-825 and having problems with the 5GHz connection

My DIR-825 is hardware version B1 running Firmware version 2.02NA
My DAP-1522 is running firmware version 1.21 in Bridge mode

2.4 GHz band running 802.11b/g
5 GHz band running 802.11n

I am running AUTO (WPA2-Personal) encryption on both 2.4 GHz and 5Ghz bands on the DIR-825. I can connect the DAP-1522 on the 2.4 GHZ band but cannot connect on the 5 GHz band. What is see in the log of the DAP-1522 when I try to connect to the 5GHz SSID is the following:

Uptime 0 day 00:07:51  [Wireless]4-way handshake fail:Root AP 00:21:70:E9:55:C0
Uptime 0 day 00:07:48  [Wireless]Association Sucess: Root AP 00:21:70:E9:55:C0

I see the DIR-825 5GHz SSID from the site survey window and the signal % > 75%

Thanks

I'm having a similar problem  and just like yourself firmware is completely up to date. Yet unfortunately for myself, I can't even see the 5Hz frequency in site survey, just the 2Hz.

I've tried naming them the same ssid and then disabling 2Hz altogether, and that seems to make the 5Hz led flash and i remain connected, but put 2.4Hz back on and it's going back to 2.4 without any led flashing on 5Hz. aes is set for both frequencies, and auto wap, wap2 is also set for both frequencies as well as wireless n only for the 5Hz and nbg mixed for 2.4Hz.

I'm noticing that the selection for 2.4Hz 5Hz  or mixed mode frequency on the 1522 is greyed out and stuck on mixed, is yours as well ?

btw i tried calling d-link support, and .... well as you can see I'm still needing help ! Any help would greatly be appreciated,

looks like 2.4 will be set for now, until someone helps me on this one, would be nice to use the feature i kinda bought the router for :(

Are you naming your ssid different for 5Hz and 2.4Hz, I reverted back to having them set as different names so my other 2.4 devices can connect.  And oh ya My password is correct

UPDATE-

Well just like any other electronic toy i have , sometimes u just gotta reboot or start over again, so I tried the LAST resort, I popped in the installation cd and started installing this time i didn't select the option to "find the best performance" or whatever it's called , not sure if that helped( maybe it turns off 5ghz ussuming if it's in one frequency it will perform better) anyways regardless other than not choosing that setting on installing, I DID NOTHING DIFFERENT ! all same settings everything, exept now im on a dedicated 5ghz frequency, go figure  ???  o one more thing , i notice before when I was having trouble, i also couldn't connect my 2.4 laptop to the router, was telling me i had an incompatable network,,,, go figure not sure if it was router related or os related, I was running win 7 rc and was going to install the full version  today anyways, so I did and what do you know , no problem connecting ????? i will also note, i tried turning off 5ghz to connect laptop, even went as far as selecting wireless g only.... no luck wouldnt even ask for the security key just down rigtht would work .... so the moral of the story here is folks, just reboot or reinstall , theres no explaination for it  ??? I know ... but for some reason things just need a good hard reboot kick in the butt ?   :-\      Back to streaming 1080 p and having a 100% lag free call of duty match on my ps3 ( considering other ppl have good cennections to)  :D

It a problem with the DIR-825 it does it with them all, I have 2 and my friend has one.  When you switch on the router its hit or miss your 5Ghz will work you can switch off and on 10 times and it doesn't cure it, even rebooting doesn't cure it. I've spoken with customer service they have confirmed the problem. My suggestion use the 2.4Ghz it's just as fast, set the QOS on the 1522 and the 825 for the port you need to stream, or once you get the 5Ghz running (see below) never turn off you router.  This does not provide a cure if your other settings are incorrect.  Hardware B1 Firmware 2.02NA

Try this:
(1) When your router is booted and running open the web page
(2) Go to Setup
(3) Wireless Settings
(4) Switch off your 5Ghz setting
(6) Save setting, wait and wait and wait
(7) When you are back to the web page
(8) repeat 2-4 switching on the 5Ghz
(9) Save settings, wait and wait and wait
(10) Miraculously the 5Ghz works ?

This is just to add some info from my side, in case someone searches for this thread. I spent hours today with the same problem (except that I couldn't connect on either 2.4 or 5.0 GHz). I was getting the same handshake failure in the log.

I reverted one step on the firmware - didn't help. I was using WPA Auto (i.e. WPA or WPA2) and the passkey was correct.

I then switched to no encryption - just to check. Tralala, the connection worked. I had to restart the DAP-1522 to be able to get to outside web pages (although it said "connected" in the status). Then I switched to WPA with WPA only (i.e. no WPA2) and it connected fine. Had to restart the DAP-1522 again, but that's a minor trouble once you've spent half a day with this...

So, the problem (I believe) is only in the firmware handling of the WPA encryption...

Some more info - this morning I had to restart the DAP-1522 since it lost connection to the DIR-825. It didn't reconnect within 5 minutes and I feared that I would have to spend another 1/2 hour resetting. I left it alone for half an hour - and, lo and behold, after 25 minutes it reconnected...

I guess you have to be equipped with a lot of patience but reconnecting after 25 minutes is better than not reconnecting at all.

I forgot to give the details on the DAP-1522 Firmware: I was first using 1.21 (Europe) but switched back to 1.11 (Europe). However, I can't guarantee that the Firmware did the trick. The WPA problem is probably the same in both, but I'm not going to go back to Firmware 1.21 now once it's working with 1.11. Curiosity killed the cat...
