iphone and the dir-655
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:20:16 PM »

Hi I have two iphones. Both on firmware 1.1.2. I have a random problem where the iphones after a random time period will stop being able to browse to new network pages.
By that I mean, if I have the web page ip address I can go to it. I can browse to the router from the iphones. I can ping the iphones from the router.
But dns request are just not accepted from the router. I am sure its a router problem as I only have the problem at my house with the dir655. At my brothers house were we spent a week did not encounter the problem. He had a dlink DGL-4300 Wireless 108G Gaming Router.
After the random time period has elapsed and the router will not see new dns queries from iphones, I can only browse the internet by known ip address. That is to say by putting in the direct ip address of Google 74.125.47.99 and the iphones will go there.

Currently have 1 iphone set to dhcp reservation of 192.168.0.101
currently have 1 iphone set to static of 192.168.0.2 - which I am trying today to see if resolves.
both iphones are set to custom dns through their dns setting page. I have tried the clearwire dns settings, I have tried sbc of  4.2.2.2 and I have tried 208.67.222.222.

Product Page: DIR-655  Hardware Version: A1/A2 Firmware Version: 1.11
settings
802.11 Mode: Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g
802.11d Enable is set to off.
QOS turned off, not gaming trying to troubleshoot
NAT Endpoint Filtering is set to Endpoint Independent
TCP Endpoint Filtering:   is set to Endpoint Independent
Extra Wireless Protection set to off.
Wish is enabled and set http check or on.
Windows Media Center set to off.
Automatic is set to on. I just turned this on, today.
Wi-Fi Protected Setup set to off

I have tried no security, wep and wpa.
No other wireless device at house experience this problems, laptop with dlink card or laptop with belkin wireless adaptors.

Dlink tech support says call apple or clearwire.
Apple says call clearwire or dlink
Clearwire says we are an ISP? Are you sure we are an ISP? Hang on let me check, dang, we are an ISP, let me transfer you to a rep...Disconnect on transfer.

Any suggestions?

I also have a DIR-655 and an iPhone. I am running in mixed mode with WPA2/Aes encryption. I haven't seen any behavior like you're describing. During this period of failure, do the PC's that are connected suffer from the same issue?

Yes iPhones both running latest firmware. No neither  are hacked. Both are running apple latest firmware of 1.1.2. Hopefully iPhone 1.1.3 will solve or within the next month or so may pull out old wireless router and try it. Its a dlink as well, would just do dual wireless it was the wireless 4 port 100 mb speed. Just wanted the gigaspeed on the dir655.

I think Lycan is on something there, I've heard that the different revisions of the iPhone have different hardware.
Does disabling the encryption fix the issue?

I too have been experiencing the same things here guys.  I just bought 2 iphones and they work fine for awhile and then after about an hour--they are deauthenticated????

Running 1.11MSBeta as i had to go back to this cause 1.20 is buggy with schedules.

Anyways I thought it might be Apples 2.0.2 firmware but I really think it is in the router.  Dont have this problem at Starbucks.

Pretty much same setup as above.  Any News on this????

Sure is funny how the employees 655 works yet 90% of the others dont work with the iphone??

i find that a little odd...

Not saying that it is not possible but you seem to have a way of dancing around the bush without clearly stating to us what D-link is doing about the problem for the other 90% with iphones.

Nothing against lycan(i like you and you have helped me more than once here) here i am just tired of the BS here...What we should be doing is Coming  clean and lets talk about what the main issues are with the 655 and get them out on the table.

Apparently the latest Firmware should have never been released as there are more bugs in that firmware then you can shake a stick at + iphone loosing connectivity through de-authentication all the time.

Maybe its the N factor--i dont know but I am going back to my linksys G today to see if that is really what the problem is with iphone and 655.

Anyways no hard feelings here..I am just too old to play the dancing game of did you try this or mine works fine why doesnt yours crap.  You should plug it in and it work period!!!!!!

Oh and when will 1.3 be coming out?  We need it Badly for the mistakes in 1.20....

Just my Rant for the day

First off my apologize to lyken,  I updated to 2.1 firmware on the Iphone and it seems to have fixed the wifi issues i was having on both phones.  now they stay connected for 2 days now.  My Bad...I will always admit to doing something i should own up to.  Again My Apologize for acting out and being a little abrasive.

Those that are having problems - updated to 2.1(on Iphone) and Jailbroke with Quickpwn and all is good...

Hope this helps

LOL,
I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's usually not a problem for the unit, it's a problem for YOU with the unit.

Keep in mind that tons of these units hit shelves everyday. So figure if we sold 1000 units and 10 people had problems with them, then those ten people seeking help found the forums, it would appear like there is an issue with the product.

I'm not trying to say we aren't recognizing the people that are having trouble with the unit, it's just difficult to address an issue when we're not able to replicate it.

But-I didnt say that the new firmware for the 655 doesnt need work because it does. Especially on the Schedules --did you ever get Schedules to work??

That whole system is silly. Let me try to explain. The router actually operates on a 24hour clock. The UI is represented in 12hour format. So herein lies the problem. I've been told there are a number of issues, one customer claims that he can create a schedule that runs from 3:00am-to-7:00am but not 11:59-to anything AM.
Again this issue is the ability for the clock to pass midnight in the 24hour clock.

Well Then I assume this needs attention then... :-\...If the Schedule is not working past midnight then you will have to create two schedules for anything running past midnight.  therein is the problem that needs to be addressed before this goes past Beta.

Just my thoughts
