100mbps on wired, Crashing, Shareport?
« on: November 23, 2009, 06:27:44 AM »

Hardware Version: A4   Firmware Version: 1.32NA

When I transfer a file anywhere in my LAN using wired, it maxes at 12.5MB (100mbps).  Both computers have GB lan and are showing they are connected at that speed.  I'm using B and G compatibility on my wireless because I have an old mac laptop that I can't upgrade the nic.  So my wireless is running at B speeds but why is my wired connection matching the speeds of B Devices when I have gig lan?  Is the wired connection only as fast as the wireless?

On Gig Lan theoretically I should be able to get up to 125MB per sec.  Seeing the connection start out at 12.5MB and slowly cut down to 10MB or so indicates that it's running at 100mbps.  Yet no matter where I look in my two computers they say connected at 1gpbs.

I'm also being cut off constantly like every 5 minutes or so.  Sometimes multiple times within a 5 minute span.  I've tried everything suggested in this forum such as turning off DNS relay, QOS, etc...  nothing helps.

My Shareport is so unreliable that it's a pointless program.  I bought a new printer just to use with Shareport and the whole thing just plain doesn't work without constant restarts.  I'm power cycling my router enough as it is.  Having to do it just to reload shareport connectivity is so frustrating I want to throw this thing in the middle of a busy highway.

I'd love to have a reliable router.  My DIR-614+ was rock solid for 5 years till the day it up and died.  I feel like I've downgraded because the DIR-644's reliability is pretty bad.

OK I've figured out the 100mbps limit is due to the NIC on one of my computers.  I have 3 XP computers.  All of them will transfer at about 30-40MB's across the network.  This one Vista computer will only do 100mbps even though it's supposed to do 1000mbps.  It's a Foxconn A7GM-S with Realtek 8111D integrated LAN.  I'll never buy Foxconn again, it was an experiment to go with another manufacturer than my usual anyway.

The DIR-655 and Shareport issues are separate and continually happening.  Why would D-Link release a product onto the world which clearly has a ton of issue.  I've only ever used D-Link.  I think my next router will be from another company because I feel like I purchased an unreliable product from a company that has caused more harm than good with each firmware update.
