Hello! my first post!

So I've had the DIR-655 for about a month now, it worked fantastic for the month.  I just upgraded to Windows 7 (64 Bit Ultimate) and now when I'm using the computer often the Router will get into a bad state.  I lose internet and network connections across everything and you can't log into the router at all.  All the lights are flashing normally on both the router and the modem.  If you unplug the modem from the router and plug it directly into the comp, internet works fine.  I've noticed if I don't do anything but just leave my comp on it never crashes but if I'm working on it, it'll crash 3 times a night.  The only way to fix it is to restart Windows.  If you restart the router and not windows it still doesn't work until you reboot Windows.

I can't see how Windows 7 could cause this though.

I have the newest Firmware installed.  I thought maybe it was bittorrent but it just crashed when I was streaming a video off of Engadget.com and not doing anything else.  I had just turned on the comp for about 5 mins as well...

Very strange!  but extremely annoying!  I searched through the forum quick and didn't notice anything similar.

Any help would be great! anyone else experience anything like this?  Any ideas ?__? I'm running out of things to try...

Update,
I was searching through the forums and someone had suggestions on a problem that sounded similar.  "Turn off: DNS relay, UPNP, HTTPS Server"  Switched those off and now the router doesn't get an internet connection at all.  Reset, restarted still doesn't work.  Reset all settings to what was working before and it just won't get internet connection.  Reset the modem, reset everything, restarted 100 times... just wont work at all anymore minus just local area network.  That works fine, but getting internet from the modem doesn't work at all anymore.  Worked before I changed the settings...

I have no idea anymore... I'm getting desperate...

When you disconnect the ethernet cable from the router and hooked directly to the computer and then put it back to the router, did you power cycle your modem?

Yeah when I put it back in I shut off the computer and unplugged both the modem and the router.

When you turn off dns relay, YOU MUST ENSURE your PC's get a real DNS address.
A dhcp renew is often not enough to do this.
You can either do an ipconfig /release  ipconfig /renew
Or you can reboot probably.

interesting!
So after messing about for 3 hours I got it to connect again, I've left all the defaults and it just died now.

I just did an Ipconfig /release - /renew and it poped back up instantly.

So what could be causing it to get into a state like that?

Almost sounds like your NIC is going into some power savings state.  May want to check its properties for settings that you can adjust.

It only happens when im on the computer and actively using it though, would it still go into power save during these times?

If it is actively in use the power savings settings should not kick in.

Turn off IPV6 (on windows), and up your DHCP lease time (on the router) and report back.
When things "go out", can you ping the router?  I'll bet not.
Btw, do you also frequent a sportbike forum?

good luck
