Can't add torrents to downloa neither form url nor file
« on: November 27, 2009, 08:11:22 AM »

I have successfully set up my NAS: ftp up and running. Remote web gui access: up and running. Mapped drive: OK. Bittorrent: installed.
I have no major problems at all, but there´s something I missing, I believe It's something stupid, but can't figure it out.
I can add files remotely (accessing from my workplace to my NAS) to the bittorrent client, and it downloads files.
At work I use XP PRO 32 BIT, and am behind very strong proxy and firewall, among others.
But the problem remains at home (within my network, where resides my NAS), therer, I can't add any torrent files nor URLs. Ibelieve it might be linked the location of the file, since it says for example: "c:\fakedir...." URL just don't seem to work, might be the URL, haven't tried much about it.
It doesn't matters in wich directory I place the file, always the same. I have also tried adding the torrent to my NAS \BT\TORRENT DIR, and nope, nothing happens.
I have Vista x64 running at home.
Don't know where to begin trying, ¿any clues, anybody?
Thanks.

manusz,

I had exactly the same problem. I found a post on the net stating the "fakepath..." had something to do with windows security. I fubbed around, eventually opened a cass with DLink. They were useless in the matter. Finally I loaded firefox and got the NAS to load from file. I never have got it to load from URL, that is probably me(inexperience).

FWIW, The issue was not a there then gone using firefox. It eventually stabilized and I don't have the problem anymore. I have not checked lately, but I seem to remember that I can even use IE8 now.

I use 1.08b5 and have the BT loaded as an app(new style app install). If you upgrade to 1.08b5 and want to load as an app: upgrade, load BT app, I removed the app(it disappeared), then I reloaded the app again to prove it is loaded in the new style.

Wel It seems like firefox works (I installed the portable version). I say so, because, the path seems to be correct, but I click on the add button and nothing happens. I don't know if my NAS takes toooo long to update info, but It's not shown in the download tab. The files I added from XP machine are downloading flawlessly.
The problem resides that I don't have any more 32 bit computers at home, just vista x64 and 7 x64
Will installing XP VM solve the problem (not a final solution, but just a patch at least)
Does anybody knows if this issue is fixed in b5???
ECF Intervention on this issue will be welcome

I just can't add torrent files from my PC, ¿any clues?
I press the add button (from firefox, since it doesn't show the c:\fakepath...) and nothing happens, It loads a page (could see the loading bar at the bottom of the explorer) but it returns to the same page, ¡nothing!
Again a hand from ECF good be great on this isue.

Just checked, Installed XP in a Virtual Machine and It can upload torrents to my nas and it works flawlessly. I'll add this issue as a bug to be fixed on next FW.

ECF,

Read "acomp917" post... that's me :)

I was using 32 bit xp home and had the problem. I first loaded ubuntu 64 bit and got the 323 to accept torrent files. After that, I installed FF under windows. As I wrote, It was not a here then gone problem. It seemed to slowly go away while using FW 1.07. I have since up'd to 1.08b5 and will kindly REFUSE to use any other version.

BTW, I am a trained troubleshooter and never found a solid return. The problem just seemed to slowly disappear.

That's right. I cannot add torrents from 64 bit OS machines. I patched this, installing a virtual machine of Windows XP 32 bit.
If you need me to provide more info, just let me know.

It's not just you manusz...I had it working fine and then all of a sudden I can't add torrents from file any more.  I'm running XP Pro 32-bit and using FireFox (latest version).  The only thing that has changed for me is that I just applied a Windows patch, so I'll try rolling it back and see if that is the cause.

I've been doing some research. ¿could it be that excesively long file names have this issue with the NAS?

Another possible issue could be the characters in filenames.  Linux and Windows have different legal file name character sets.  Check for special characters in the filenames.
