DIR-655 Slow Buffering FIXED!
« on: December 06, 2009, 12:25:57 PM »

I have a DIR-655 router, with a Motorolla Surfboard 6120 Modem, and a 3000 kbps download and 400 kbps upload cable connection.  I've tested my connection speed hundreds of times and it is always 20 mbps or higher.  However, my streaming video sucks.  Youtube, Apple Trailers, Hulu etc.  They all buffer really fast for about 10 seconds or so then fall flat on their face.  It isn't my connection speed so I'm thinking it is my router, I have an IMAC using wireless N to the router.  I have full signal as well.  I've tried resetting router to defaults and still no joy.  Please help with the configuration.

Same issue here, video streaming works great on wired but wireless suffers. Using a Siemens Gigaset SE567 in modem only mode and Beta Firmware 1.32NA Build 09.

Tried disabling WISH and QOS to no avail as well as setting my router to N only, G only and B only and setting my security to WPA with only AES or using WEP encryption.  Also unplugged any wireless phones or anything that I thought may be sending any interference and the nearest other WiFi network is at least 100ft away.

Both wireless devices are Apple products MacBook Pro and iPhone.

The one option I seen work was lowering my Transmission Rate to 9 or 12mbs which of course slows down anything I do with computer to computer traffic with the wireless devices.

Unfortunately I don't know exactly when these problems came up as I removed the router during the 1.3 disconnection problems but I am assuming somewhere in the 1.3x firmware as I do remember the 1.20/1.21 working fine.

UPDATE:

Fixed it.  I disabled auto channel scan, fixed the wireless channel to 11, set the transmission rate to MCS 11 ( I started at 15 and worked my way down until the buffering problem went away)  It stopped at 11.  Channel width 20/40.

Those settings fixed my laggy youtube buffering problem.

Lower the Transmission Rate helps my MacBook Pro at close ranges but if I move it 15 feet it drops out if the Transmission Rate is set too high.

However the iPhone 3G still has issue with all speeds unless its set right down at 6 or 9.
