Hello,

I wonder if someone can help me before I buy a new router.
My DIR655 drops me off the internet while on wireless every 5 to 10 minutes, I am aware that other people had this problem I tried a search did not find a solution.
I reset everything to factory default, did a reset, tried with no password on the network but it still happens.
I am using a Mac with 10.5.8 I have no firewall, my internet comes from a cable Modem, this is the speed I am getting:
32823 kbps plugged in cable Modem
17936 kbps plugged in DIR655
I upgraded to the new firmware
Hardware Version: A3 Firmware Version: 1.32NA
but it did not fix it
Can someone help me, I do not know what to do anymore, I thought I bought the best router :(

It would be best to get someone (who knows what he's doing) to sit next to you on the Mac in order to solve this. Where to start....
- What's the modem
- how is your network configured
- don't know nothing about MAcs unfortunately

Have you got the latest beta build (09) of 1.32NA? If not I would recommend trying that first.

Also, what's your physical environment like? You might try unchecking the short GI and see if that helps. I think it's under advanced wireless. I have had some success with that.

What clients have you got? Are they all N, mixed N&G? Make sure in manual network setup that you only select the ones you need.

Basically we need more info on your network and setup to help. Some of us (like myself) no nothing about Macs, but if it's a router problem we might be able to help a bit :)

Hi,

Thank you for your response

Yes the firmwire is the latest from the dlink website,
Firmware   1.32NA   7/20/2009

As of my environment the router is plugged into Road Runner Cable Modem, there is nothing else around, no phone, no other computer, no tv..etc

For clients it is 802.11 Mode :  Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g.
I have a Mac on N and an older PC on G.
The Mac gets 117 Mbps Rat and 100% Signal
The PC gets 48 Mbps Rate and 68% Signal
The PC is a Sony Vaio and it gets the same problems.
Right now the Security Mode is WPA/WPA2 - Personal
As I said in my previous post I tried with no Security and Default Factory Settings and it was still happening.

Wish is turned Off.
No Ports forward no rules
No Mac Filtering
In Firewall it says
enabled SPI checked
UDP Adress Restricted checked
TCP Port and Address Restricted checked
Anti spoof not checked
Application Level gateway ALG configuration
PPTP IPSEC RTSP SIP (all checked)

Advanced Wireless Settings
Transmit Power : High
Beacon Period: 100
RTS Thresold 2346
Fragmentation Thresold 2346
DTIM interval 1
Wlan partition Unchecked
WMM Enable checked
short GI checked

so I am unchecking short GI and see if it helps !
fingers crossed !

There is a newer firmware. If you go to the top of the forum you will see a reference to the beta firmware that has solved some issues for me and others. It was released a couple of weeks ago and is 1.32NAb09 I think.

If you can you would be better going to WPA2 only with AES security. Not sure if all your clients will take that. Also, under the status tab there is a log section. With everything ticked can you clear the log and then once you get one or two of these resets post back with what it says under the log? I wouldn't be surprised if we see "deauthentication" there (which is a real pain in the backside and other people than me would be best advising you how to fix that particular problem ;))

Good luck!

EDIT: For now though may be best leaving it with no security and soolve one problem at a time ;)

It looks like it might be a problem from the MAC end as I cannot see any disconnection in the log. Anyone else got any ideas? I don't see anything happening here at all :(

I see the router IP has been changed...wonder what the rest of the IP setup is as maybe there is a conflict.

If you're still losing connections, trying unchecking DNS Relay.

You might also assign a static IP address for the computer that keeps dropping and reacquiring IP addresses - this has helped sometimes...

Hi astrid,

What Anti-virus and Software Firewall is installed on each Wireless Computer? What Wireless Adapter is being used on the Wireless Computers?

I have the Router's Logs Emailed to me, so the information isn't lost.

But as you can see, you aren't alone in being Authentication. But mine goes strong during the day and fails in the evenings.
