Formatting 2TB drives
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:38:19 AM »

I just put two new, blank 2TB Western Digital WD Caviar (Green WD20EADS) drives in one of my DNS-323 boxes.  I configured the pair for RAID 1 and started the format.  The completion bar started ticking up about 1% per minute, so I walked away to let it finish.  About two hours later I came back, expecting to see the format finished.  Instead the format seems to be stalled at 94% complete with no progress in the last hour.

I'm hesitant to interrupt the format process.  How long does it take to format 2TB?  Does formatting normally slow down near the end of the process, and I should just be patient?  What are the consequences of restarting the format, and how should I go about doing it?

My firmware is 1.07, and the WD 2TB drives are on D-Link's list of approved drives.  But some notes on the forum seem to say that 2TB drives need 1.08 firmware.  Should I upgrade the firmware to the 1.08 beta and try again?

I would recommend the Update.
Even if 1.08b08 is a Beta the basics are working flawlessly and if the add-ons are posted this week,, you have better additional BT and firefly modules.
And if read correctly, support for 2 TB HD was added with 1.08 firmware and the 94% issue is also fixed.
