DIR-655 Constant Disconnects - PROBLEM FINALLY FIXED!!!
« on: December 23, 2009, 03:10:45 PM »

For over a year I have suffered from constant disconnects with all my wireless N clients.  While D-link was helpful at first, nothing they offered while I was in warranty worked.  These forums have been helpful also, for other issues I had, but my core problem could never be resolved.  I've scanned the net over the last year, as well as these forums, and I am not alone.  It seems this is a big problem with the DIR-655.  Each firmware patch seems to make things worse and the USB port on the back of the device has yet to work as advertised on the back of the original packaging.

Well, last weekend I finally fixed it and all my N clients connect reliability and have not had disconnect problems for the last 4 days where they could not even go 4 hours before.

My solution was painfully simple and cost me only $99!  I wish I would have done this 8 months ago!!!  I bought a different brand wireless router.  40 minutes total investment and everything works.

Anyone wondering what the "D" stands for in D-Link....   Doesn't-Link

Now, if there were only a way I could get all my wasted hours back... Thanks for the "fun".

Unfortunately, I have had similar problems with other tech support in the past and I don't think that it's really unique to D-Link.  The problem is that when you call on the phone, they make no attempt to figure out your level of knowledge...they all just read from the same script.  Forums are way better than most tech support and I wish I had come here sooner myself.

It sounds like you've given up at this point, but did you try the 1.32NAbeta09 firmware by chance?  I have yet to declare victory on my bi-weekly lockup issue, BUT I did notice that my only 802.11g device has a better connection speed vs. the old firmware.  I get full speed now without 100% signal strength.  I don't have the same disconnect problems you are seeing; mine is configured for G&N only (no 802.11b.)
