I have the DGL4500, how in the world do you get DLNA working on this? I have a NS4600 NAS with DLNA and setup Dynamic DNS. I setup the Dynamic DNS on the router and the NAS but no go... Help?

I don't see DLNA mentioned in any of the D-Link info regarding this device, and I'm not surprised really.
DLNA appears to be focused on giving the consumer some comfort level that his or her devices will properly recognize and inter-operate with each other. Please refer to http://www.dlna.org/home for more information.

I have DLNA devices on my network that work fine when their traffic is passed through the DGL-4500, so in that respect, it's already working. Or should be...

I have a Western Digital My Book World Edition NAS device, and it functions as expected. As does the WD TV Live and a Samsung Blu-ray player.

I suppose I need to ask, have you assigned the NAS a static IP address? Can you see it in the router's web interface? Basic Tab / Network Settings / Add DHCP Reservation. Once you do this, it should always give the device the same IP address, making it easier to diagnose your issue.

Refer to the owner's manual of your NAS for how to configure it, but usually you enter the device's IP address into your web browser (If you have javascript disabled, you probably will have to enable it) and you should be golden.

Have you read the manual for your NAS? I don't see where it has the capability to extend DLNA over the WAN. I don't even see where it supports any sort of HTTP connection. It does support FTP connections, at least locally.

Dynamic DNS and DLNA are unrelated, btw. Dynamic DNS, as provided by DynDNS http://www.dyndns.com/ for example, simply gives your local network a pseudo-static IP address. In case you were confused on that point.

From the manual, page 2:

Protocol Support
SmartStor NS4600 supports:

• Windows XP Professional, 2008 Server; and Vista Home Basic and Enterprise clients through SMB and CIFS protocols
• UNIX and Linux clients through the NFS protocol
• Macintosh clients through the AFP protocol
• FTP clients through the FTP protocol
• DLNA clients through UPnP protocol with an optional plug-in
• Up to 16 concurrent connections

The only protocol that I see there that typically supports WAN connections is FTP. Everything else is typically LAN bound.

You may need to contact Promise if the device isn't performing as expected...

I got it working. Oh and yes it does support HTTP over WAN...   http://kb.promise.com/KnowledgebaseArticle10164.aspx  this was how I got it working, funny this knowledgebase is for a lower model but works the same. Pretty cool and simple to do once you know what ports to do...
