Hello everyone,

I need a little help here with a feature from the DIR-655, the Local Domain Name. As I read from the help section:

"The router's DHCP server will give this domain name to the computers on the wireless LAN. So, for example, if you enter mynetwork.net here, and you have a wireless laptop with a name of chris, that laptop will be known as chris.mynetwork.net. Note, however, if the AP's settings specify "DHCP (Dynamic)" Address, and the router's DHCP server assigns a domain name to the AP, that domain name will override any name you enter here."

I tried enabling this feature on my router, but I has no success. I only works only for the router. If I put router.casa.net (casa.net is the local domain) I sends me to DIR-655 conf. page.

Also, I can't access Windows machines using their names on Remote Desktop Connection

The Mac cannot connect because the Windows-based computer cannot be found.

If I use their IP instead it works.

I also can't ping them, but on Windows I CAN ping the other machines (and the Macbook). My Macs has WINS enabled.

All my PCs and macs detects casa.net automatically as a Search Domain, is that correct? Here is a screenshot from my network settings page:

2 Macs (macbook and macmini) using OSX 10.6.2
3 PCs, 2 w/ Win 7 ultimate, 1 With Vista, all 32-bit
Hardware revision: A3
Firmware: 1.32NA

I have never filled that in on mine and have no connection issues .  2 PC's, 2 laptops and a Wii all connect just fine.  Running the beta 09 firmware.

Well, you have a Windows-only enviroment. Right now the only problem I'm having is that the Macs are not seeing any Windows Machine but Windows machines see Windows and Macs

So there might be an issue with the networking component on your Mac.
You might want to give it a try in a Mac forum.

I don't believe so, because at work or at other networks (they all use linksys instead of this POS) I can see the windows machines.

Enabling multicast streams might help?

I'm also running mixed network and have the same issue with Macs seeing windows machines and I also believe it has something to do with the network setup on the router.  My reasoning is that when I'm at work and connect my Macbook to the network I always see the other machines on the network (windows machines) but at home it never works.  This makes me think it has something to do with the way the network is running through my router (the DIR 655)

This is not DIR655 specific issue. In order to recognize a server by name, there needs to be DNS setup inside the LAN. An external DNS will ofcourse not recognize your server name. The DIR655 is not a nameserver; it just acts as a relay and does not save or cache any names. Your workplace apparently has a more elaborate network with an internal nameserver.

You can use the LMHOST file to configure names/IP's.
