As long as your firmware supports it, it should work.

Go into Basic / USB Settings in the router web interface, and make sure it's set to Shareport.

The one issue is that you can only be logged into the device on one machine at a time. One workaround is if you use a server, you can attach the device to that server, and then share it out to the rest of your network.

Also, you have to use the D-Link USB Network Utility to attach the drive to the computer of your choice.

What a concept!!      Just purchased the 4500 A2 and installed the 1.21NA firmware and have the same problems everyone is reporting. Went back to using my dgl-4100 and changed the new 4500 to an access point. As an access point, the 4500 has been rock stable giving 270 to 300 mbps connected with a belkin N1 express card.
Don't know if this info is any help but there it is.

It certainly limits the usefulness of that feature for anyone with multiple computers on their networks. But that said, it's always felt like that feature was just pasted on to add a bullet point to the features page.

I'd rather see them add a 5-10 user VPN, IPv6 support and more robustness.

Basic NAS devices are pretty cheap, and I'd rather have a discreet NAS doing the heavy lifting, than overloading the router.
