Email logs not working
« on: December 27, 2009, 06:19:26 PM »

I'm running HW A4 and Firmware 1.32NA on a DIR-655, and aside from the myriad other problems this firmware has caused, I'm wondering if this is also attributed to it (I never used the logs in 1.21 so I don't know if this SHOULD work or not)...

I run my own Linux mail server. Have done so for about 15 years. The mail server works like a champ.

I can't get it to email me the logs no matter what I try in the settings.

Under Tools > Email settings, I have:
Quote
From Email Address: dlink@daevid.com
To Email Address:  root@daevid.com
SMTP Server Address:  daevid.com
SMTP Server Port:  25
Enable Authentication :  Y
Account Name:  myusername
Password:  ********
I am positive these are the right values as I have 8 notebooks and 5 PCs all using them.

I never even see a connection hit my /var/log/mail.log

I too have this problem.  Whenever I try to email the log, the following log entry shows up:

Failure sending log email - try again in 2 minutes

I know my email settings are correct - they are the same ones I use in Outlook.  I'm using firmware 1.21 on an A4 hardware version.

Guys, I had this problem also. I discovered that my DSD-150 Securespot was blocking the outgoing mail from the router- the router log. It only happens when I turn on the 'Access Control' feature on the DSD150. On=blocks router logs from emailing. Off=router logs email successfully.

I can reproduce the problem and work around, but I am sorry for not having the solution.

Perhaps a high level moderator reading this will have a simple/stoopid answer.  ;)

Hi,

I have my email server addy formatted to:    smtp.comcast.net

I noticed the OP just had the server set to:   daevid.com

maybe it is sensitive to server formatting names ???  Because my email works fine, and has for a couple years now....

Just a thought...

daevid.com *IS* my Ubuntu mail/web/samba/everything server.

That's exactly how I have Outlook and Evolution and all other mail clients setup.

I was thinking maybe postfix isn't allowing the relay or something, but with the sparce logs the DIR655 gives, it's hard to say. I added this to my /etc/postfix/main.cf file (the DIR655 is 192.168.1.1 and my LAN is /24 of course):

Code: [Select]
mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104, [::1]/128, 192.168.1.0/24, [::ffff:192.168.1.0]/24
This made no difference. Then I fired up another ubuntu notebook on my LAN and tried this... as I also thought maybe some kind of firewall rule was blocking:

Code: [Select]
daevid@i9300:~$ telnet 192.168.1.100 25
Trying 192.168.1.100...
Connected to 192.168.1.100.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 daevid.com ESMTP Postfix (Ubuntu)
elho 192.168.1.100
502 5.5.2 Error: command not recognized
ehlo localhost
250-daevid.com
250-PIPELINING
250-SIZE 10240000
250-VRFY
250-ETRN
250-STARTTLS
250-AUTH PLAIN LOGIN
250-AUTH=PLAIN LOGIN
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8BITMIME
250 DSN
421 4.4.2 daevid.com Error: timeout exceeded
Connection closed by foreign host.

Code: [Select]
daevid@i9300:~$ telnet daevid.com 25
Trying 75.147.180.77...
Connected to daevid.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 daevid.com ESMTP Postfix (Ubuntu)
elho localhost
502 5.5.2 Error: command not recognized
ehlo localhost
250-daevid.com
250-PIPELINING
250-SIZE 10240000
250-VRFY
250-ETRN
250-STARTTLS
250-AUTH PLAIN LOGIN
250-AUTH=PLAIN LOGIN
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8BITMIME
250 DSN

but as you can see 25 is open from both the LAN 192.168.1.100 and my DNS IP too.

I really don't get it. It's stupid that this router (which I'm sure is running some Linux variant) doesn't have it's own SMTP server on it and has to use mine as a relay.

I have TWO Trendnet cameras (IP110W and IP422W) and they both have their own SMTP email server and work flawlessly.

I don't know if there's much point in responding to a four year old post, but I wonder if the problem is mixing LAN and WAS addresses.  Where is daevid.com physically located - within the LAN you are talking about, or elsewhere?  What IP address does it resolve to?  If it resolves (locally?) to a local LAN address, I'm just not sure whether the router will send email internal to the LAN.  If it resolves to your WAN address, then is the router configured to port forward SMTP to the LAN address of the server?
