I just bought a dir-835. All my computers, wireless or connected with a wire can't load 3/4 of videos on youtube, and 3/4 of images on facebook. Facebook goes into an infinite loading that never finish. Gaming is fine, it's mostly browsing on internet that is causing problem. Everything was working fine before plugging the new router.

Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PCs while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Hello thanks for your help!
What Hardware version is your router? h/w ver: a1 f/w ver:1.01
What Firmware version is currently loaded? 1.01
What region are you located? canada, montreal
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? videotron cable
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? stand alone
What ISP Modem make and model do you have? arris touchstone tm502g
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) Traffic Shaping is not checkboxed GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Advanced DNS is disabled
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking Done but not helping
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address. Pretty sure they are actually because i'm on dynamic IP
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Done, videos on youtube take very very very long to start loading, but when they load it's super fast. Facebook took very very long to end the infinite loading circle, but some images stay blank. Seem like it helped a bit
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. done, uPnP are enabled and both multicast are too not, not helping
I don't know what else to try, i'm on 2 wired computers, 1 wireless laptop (facebook seem to load better but youtube is the same) and same symptoms appear on all computers.
-
What browser are you using? Does it happen if you try with Opera or FF?
-
Same thing happen with FF and IE for youtube, IE on facebook is worst than FF, it can't even connect to facebook at all.
-
I don't know if it can affect the router network, but when I installed the router I could not install it with the Quick install disc it was saying that there was no ethernet cable connected between my router and my computer. But internet was working on my computer... So I went on the router itself (192.168.0.1) and did the setup wizard.. I just found weird that the computer couldnt find the router when it was connected properly.. :-\
-
Try swapping out cables?
CAT6 is recommended...
Best way to set up the router is manually.
-
That's what I did, I tried different cables and it didn't work. Need help :-[
-
I had to do a factory reset because with the changes, my connection was timing out on D3, and now the game work. I just don't get it, I can browse all websites but youtube and facebook does not want to work... No one had this problem with the d-link 835.. ?!?!
-
Does this happend on a different pc or device?
Is the pc ssecurity sw disabled on this particular pc?
-
Yes this happen with 2 wired computer and 1 wireless laptop, anti-virus and firewall is disabled. :-\
-
One thing we've seen is some issues with Arris modems. One thing if you can test this out, take the router to a different location, say a friend, neighbor or family member and see if this issue follows. Any chance of getting a different modem by chance? Or are you stuck with the Arris?
-
Good idea, Ill try something out of this, maybe tomorrow. I will post update haha. :P
-
We'll be waiting with bated breath sir. ;)
-
Well I didn't have the opportunity to try it on a different modem. What I did is put my old router back (Its a dinosaur a DI-604) and bang facebook and youtube loaded perfectly. Pretty sure the problem is the router, or this router with the Arris modem. Unfortunately I can't test it on another modem since my friends are all with the same ISP as me (This ISP use Arris touchstone). I really don't know what is causing this, I can't believe i'm the only one experiencing this. :-\
-
Hmm, do they have the same model modem? Might be worth a try to test just to see. I presume they have different brand and model routers?
It is odd that only BF and YT only seem to effect you while using this router and modem.
I guess you have determined that using a different older model works. Oly thing I might try is go to the store with good return policy and try a different DLink model if they have one and see if that does it. I'm hoping it won't.
Other than this, I'll pass this along and see if there is anything else were missing. There might be a FW issue here.
-
I see there is another user with the same problem. I've sent a message to DLink to see if they can provide any info. ::)
-
Good to hear I am not alone with that problem, I am really curious what's causing this! ;D
-
I just brought a dir-835.
P.S. octanez, I have the same problem. So you're not alone. A call to D-Link have resolved the problem but now the problem is here again.
P.S. Also saw a firmware for dir-835 but the link is only for a pdf saying :
DIR-835 Firmware Release Notes
Firmware: FW v1.02
Hardware: Rev. A1
Date: 2012/07/02
Problems Resolved:
1. Fixed WPS-PIN security issue
2. Fixed 5G channels issue.

What browser are you using? Firefox This happen with IE too?
I've sent a message to DLink regarding this. So will just have to wait for now.
-
That area up there mainly use Arris modems? Maybe 40% - 50 % are with Videotron Cable and maybe 30% - 40 % with Bell. I know Videotron users with high speed Internet use an Arris modem.
What browser are you using? Firefox This happen with IE too? Yes
-
Any chance Videotron allows BOYM? I might try a different modem if possible just to test.
-
Just saw this topic. I'm kind of relieved now that I'm not alone experiencing these difficulties.
I also live in the Montreal region with Videotron as ISP. ???
-
One thing to maybe help push this along, any one email or started email with DLink support? I would start there and see if you get any results. I might even call and ask for level 2 support and also mention that others here in the forums are exhibiting the same thing.
-
I have the exact same issue. I am from the same region (Montreal), internet provider (videotron) and modem (Arris).
I tried to remove the DNS advanced option and it fixed the issue for Facebook. However, I still have the same issue of infinite loadtime with Youtube video.
DLINK, please have closer look at this problem. You know the exact combination of equipment causing the issue. Please advise.
-
Anyone still on older FW, and exhibiting this issue might what to upgrade to v1.02 and see if the problem still exists.
-
Hi,
I have the same problem. It used to work fine when I started using the Router 6 weeks ago but youtube stopped working after the Flash player upgrade on my PC (11.3.300.268, about 3 weeks ago) and on my Android phone (I don't have the present version). The weird part is that in Youtube you can see the thumbnails in the timebar (when I scroll the timeline button) ???. I have tried other video streaming sites (Netfilx) and it works perfect. So, from what I can figure, the problem seams to be around the Flash Player after the latest upgrade. Anyone made the same observation?
I also live in Montreal and I my ISP is Videotron. My firmware is 1.02 on my DIR-835. Connected the router is a PC (wired), a laptop (Wi-FI), a IPod (Wi-Fi) and a Galaxy Nexus - Android 4.1.1 (Wi-Fi).
SirEnigma.
-
Oh I forgot to mention, I tried putting my old DLINK DIR-524 and everything starts to work perfectly again.
SirEnigma
-
Yeah this is the same thing for me enigma, the only video streaming website I get problem with is youtube. I can also see the entire thumbnails from the videos as well! I just updated my FW to 1.02 and updated the flash player but the problem persist. I don't know if it is related with flash player, my older version was doing the same... :-\
-
The thing I keep thinking about is that the only persons complaining about this problem seam to be located in Montreal AND using the Videotron cable internet. The DIR-835 was sold , at the very least, all around Canada so why is th problem only occurs here? :-\
SirEnigma
-
What I believe is something to do with that ISP or area. Most problems seen are DLink routers and this ISP.
-
Is there any one up there with this model router that has a friend, family or maybe work place where they can take this router and connect it just for a quick test? See if the problem exhibits and follows if you can find someone with a different ISP?
Is Videotron the only ISP in this particular area? I know Rogers handles western Canada. Any other ISP up there?
-
Bell is in the area of Montreal as well, but I don't know any friends with this ISP.. Anyone ?
-
I know someone. I will be very buisy until the end of next week but I will try with is connection very soon.
SirEnigma
-
Keep us posted.
-
Also in that same situation except I have had 2 sleepless nights trying all kinds of configurations as I dont have time to mess with non functional hardware during the day :-S
I was on my way to the store to return the modem when I found this thread.
ISP Videotron (I have already yelled at them for trying to tell me it was the router).
Location quebec city.
So is the new firmware out because whether I want or not, I will have to return it if no fix is provided in the next few hours. Unfortunately I am not the only person using the internet in my home... that's why we got the router in the first place.
I was about to change service provider as a last resort. Shiite.
-
What ISP model modem do you have?
Any chance to try a different ISP modem?
-
Arris TM602G/115
No chance to try with a different ISP for me.
If that can help, I have tried to replace ISP name servers with open DNS ones, with same results. Then I have tried with advanced DNS with no luck and returned to ISP assigned name servers. But is is still not working or rarely working bringing momentary false joy.
-
Going to recommend that you contact DLink support, level 2 and tell them about this. Modem and everything your experiencing. Seems to be centered around the Videotron ISP, there modems and DLink routers. We just don't seem to see this issue here in the U.S.
We can have a review of your router using Teamviewer however not sure if that will result in any positive results.
-
teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure.
-
Factory reset this morning did not solve anything, still no youtube.
Contacted DLink support pointing them to the forum thread I hope they will figure out for themselves as I have no time today to spend with them on the phone...
FYI I have plugged the computer directly in the Arris and youtube apparently works, so sorry for DLink it seems to be the router that's the problem.
Hope they figure it out - will check thread back tomorrow.
-
I also have sent this to my contact at DLink. So they are aware of it. It would be interesting to see if there was an issue between the DLink router and the ISP modem. Ya, the ISP modem might not exhibit this however that could be a false positive and the connection between the these Arris modems and DLink routers could have some sort of incompatibility. If you or anyone else can take this model router to a family, friend or neighbors place that doesn't have an Arris modem and run a quick test to see if this router works or if the problem follows there, would be helpful to know this. I'm sure DLink is working to review this issue.
Thank you for your feed back.
-
Also, Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure. Just to review the modem and router settings.
-
Also looking at your ISP Modem model, this is a GATEWAY modem, which I believe has a built in router.
Can you log into the Modems web page at 192.168.100.1? If so, can you see if there is a DMZ option any where with in the ISP Modems web page. If so, i would input the IP address that the 835 is getting on the WAN side located under Status/Device Info/Wan section on the 835 and see if this helps any. If this ISP modem has a router built in then it's possible you are encountering Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm). This can cause connection issues between the ISP Modem and external router and when you directly connect your PC to the ISP Modem, the problem will probably not present itself. Have this will cause any external router to not behave correctly and is not a problem of the external router.
If your 835 is getting a 192.168 pool address, then the the ISP Modem is handing out a private IP address and the external router, i.e. 835 needs a public IP address. Please let us know if the ISP modem has a web page and a DMZ option.

I tried to connect to the admin interface of the modem but the IP addresses I tried did not respond. Probably they modify it to prevent tampering by end users. So I cannot tell you if there is a DMZ option...
Maybe the modem has a built-in router but there is only one ethernet connection on the back...
-
Do you have any phone service thru this modem as well?
Shame you can't get in. I might call and ask your ISP and see if they can tell you anything.
The modem will only have one LAN port in back regardless if there is a built in router or not. It's all done electronically.
I'll be getting my 835 in soon and will see how this does on my system here in the U.S. ;)
One thing you could try if your interested.
Turning a router into an AP. (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40856.0)
If your modem has a built in router, might work better to let the modem handle the DHCP and NAT and then maybe have the 835 work as an AP. This will help eliminate double NAT. This is a suggestion for now. You can still wire and wirelessly connect to the 835 in this configuration, it's just the DHCP server, NAT and other options will be turned OFF and others not used.
-
Well I got my DIR-835 today. I suppose some of you may not like what I have to report. ::)
After installing it and setting up WiFi and a few other items. Router has been working great. I haven't updated FW. This is out of the box only. I have been able to log in to my FB account with out issue and browsed around some. I then watched Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails videos on YouTube from beginning to end. Router seems to be doing ok so far. I'll do some gaming this weekend and see how that goes.
I feel this issue that some of your are experiencing is in Canada on this specific "Videotron" ISP and using Arris modems is probably the place where this problem is coming from. I don't think it's FW related as Canada and U.S. use the same FW.
If you need proof let me know and I'll post pics and give more of my info with the 835 I have.
I set up the 835 using the routers Wizard using a Mac Book Pro loaded with OSX 10.6.8.
Safari Browser.
ISP modem is Motorola SB 6180. CAT 6 cabling.
Wifi is Mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and Single mode N on 5Ghz.
FW is v1.01 on a RevA1 router.
-
I don't think we need any proof on that, I believe you. But one question... Why this problem only occur with the 835 and Arris modems... I never had such problems with any D-Link routers with my ISP.
-
Finally I tried my 835 with Sympatico (other ISP) and it works. So it really looks like a compatibility issue between the ARIS (isp modem) and the DLink-835. I am using an old DLINK DI-524 and it works perfectly (except I sometime loose the internet access and I have to reboot the DLINK. that is why I changed the router in the first place). REALLY HOPE DLink finds a solution....
SirEnigma (jean-pascal)
-
It sounds like this could be an Arris modem issue as well. Since you tried the 835 on a different ISP modem and it works, feel the issue lies with Arris AND DLink. Not sure if who would accept responsibility on this or what seems that the 835 does work on other ISP modems accept for the Arris. Seen many issues with Arris modems. Would be interesting to see if one of you could contact Arris directly and tell them what you've done and see if they might respond. Not sure if they will say anything or pass the buck to the ISP or to DLink. Of course, I'm sure that would happen too going back in the other direction too. ;)
-
How come then that if you plug directly the arris in the computer that it works ? How come that other routers work with ISP, including other DLink models ? The iSP actually tells the user that the problem is the router and they cannot do anything.
I do not think it is in the advantage of Dlink to ignore the issue considering the amount of suscribers to videotron in the quebec province (1 million if I remember).
Bestbuy and future shop are going to get a load of returns and the DLink brand continues to lose its reputation...
-
Bestbuy and future shop do not refund after 30 days. It took me about that to figure out that it was the router that was the problem (Videotron saying it is my computer, DLInk says it is the ISP etc.) So I am stuck with the router and i HOPE DLink will release a firmware that will correct the problem.

The problem could be anything at this point.
Arris modems are notorious for not working well with external routers, any Mfr external router as a matter of fact.
Could be that some Arris modems have built in routers in which already can cause connection issues since this introduces double NAT when using external routers. So when you by pass the external router, this problem is not seen when directly connected to the modem with the PC. Could be some odd interaction between the Arris modem and this particular model router or any external router, theres too many to really know what does and doesn't work. Some may work, some may not. Some have been able to get the 835 working using other Mfr ISP modems, and not Arris modems.
I have passed this on to DLink. It's in here hands. If users choose to return the 835 and find something that does work then that is recommended. I would also find a different mfr Modem and test as well. If ISPs support BOYM then I would recommend getting something other than Arris. If your ISP won't support BOYM then, I recommend that users deal with there ISPs and modems or in some cases, if the ISP modem has a built in router already, DO NOT to use an external router, rather get you a DLink DAP model AP device instead. These model APs are just that, wireless APs with out the router functions of external routers. In most cases, these DAP models will work with any modem that have built in routers just fine and where the modem is being the host router and using a external router may not be recommended in this case since this seems to cause Double NAT and connection problems. Usually if the modem can be bridged properly or if the modem has a DMZ option, then maybe using external routers could be used.
Dlink is aware of the problem and it's in there hands. I highly doubt DLinks reputation is on the line here. If your really concerned or bothered how this or any other DLink products work, You need to find something else that does. Again, this may or may not be a DLink issue. Maybe a combination of Arris and DLink at this point. All we can do is wait, or find other solutions. I'm sure DLink is aware of the frustrations that users are feeling. We all hope there is a fix or someone finds the solutions. Until then, make yourselves happier and find something that works. For those that continue to support D-Link and new users with this product, Please contact D-Link support directly. THe more they know and hear about this, the more they will be proactive in getting it resolved and provide everyone with additional help, support, information and a fix.
As far as I'm concerned, the issue lies with Arris, This certain ISP in Canada and DLink. The problem is not seen so far here in the U.S.
This thread is closed until further notice. It will be re-opened if the problem results in further information and or a resolution.
Good Luck.
-
I'm re-opening this up since we are seeing this issue with a DIR-857 and another user on the ISP Videotron. There is talk of configuration of IPv6. Please review the following link and if anyone can test this out, please let us know the details:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=51109.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=51109.0)
Maybe this can help some or get us going in a right direction.
-
I will try that within 48h. Thank you for taking my issue seriously and Reopening the Thread.

Aslo have the same problem.
Yesterday I changed my Cisco for this Dlink, and now I cant load any youtube video.
Using Videotron ISP with their modem (phone/internet).
I'll check for a solution today, otherwise I'll return the router :(

Guys,
I have the same problem, and i fixed it ! It comes from the fact that the videotron modem does not support IPv6. All you have to do is disable the IPv6 on your network card (on windows or linux) and it will work just fine
-
another fix I just found... instead of disabling the IPv6 on the PC, go in the router in Setup/IPv6 then click on Manual IPv6 Internet connection setup, then select My IPv6 connection is : Autoconfiguration
then hit apply !!
VOILA !
-
Glad you got it working Simonvez. All this time and it comes down to IPv6 settings on PCs. I was thinking all this was a configuration issue.
Glad you got it working. Enjoy.
-
I was really close to bring that router back to the store. but I am happy i didnt do it now :)
That thing is rocking fast and stable
-
;) Enjoy it!

Confirmed..
Same ISP (videotron), same modem, same router (dir-835).
Go into:
Setup - IPV6 - Manual IPV6 Internet Connection Setup
Uncheck "Enable automatic IPv6 address assignment" then reboot your router and voilą!
Thnx for the thread.

Yup, it did solved my problem although I've hit a second one related to VPN ipsec where i would get disconnected within a minute or two.... This time got I got tired I simply brought the router back to the store and exchanged it with a netgear WNDR4000. It worked out of the box without any problems.

Good Luck with the different router.

Hi,
We have carefully read your comments regarding an issue relating to YouTube and other streaming sites with some recent D-Link routers (including the DIR-835) connected to Videotron's network. This problem is related to IPv6 MTU and has been confirmed by D-Link. A fix will be available in future versions of the firmware for these routers (versions above 1.03 for the DIR-835).
The temporary workaround to solve this issue is to select "6rd" rather than "Auto Detection" as the IPv6 Internet Connection:
1. Login to your routeur web interface (http://192.168.0.1) with the "admin" username.
2. Select Setup at the top, then IPv6 on the left.
3. Click "Manual IPv6 Internet Connection Setup" near the bottom of the page.
4. In the field "My IPv6 Connection is:", select 6rd (second-last option in the menu).
5. Hit "Save Settings". You will be asked to reboot the routeur.
This issue does not affect Videotron-branded DIR-825 routers.
We hope this information will be helpful to you and we remain available to answer your questions regarding our products and services by phone, chat and email: http://bit.ly/LNGzRk, we also available on Facebook/Videotron and Twitter @Videotron.
-
Thank you for posting and confirming the information. I hope this will help users of the DIR-835 and other model routers that support IPv6 working on the Videotron ISP service. This seemed to be an isolated issue between DLink routers and Videotron ISP and glad it's being resolved and that there will be a fix forth coming.
Thank you.
Enjoy.
