Recently 2.03 for B1 version became available but I didn't proceed yet coz' my camera is connected via WiFi. But my husband or my children may have selected the upgrade when accessing it on mydlink+. Now I can't access or reset the unit. Is there other way to recover it before I bring it for repair. Don't consider it as negligence since mydlink prompted it for upgrade. Thanks.

Did it many times but unfortunately can't access it even direct connection neither on the same cloud router. Why mydlink permits F/W upgrade even it is WiFi connected... WHY!!!!

When you attempted the factory reset, was the camera wired to your router when you tried running the Setup Wizard? The Setup Wizard should be used while the camera is hard-wired to the router.

Sorry for the incomplete details but even connected to cloud router but getting the same result. The LED indicator is red so I guess that my unit need repairs. It is unfortunate that my first cameras 942L and 1130L didn't have problem but this happened after the upgrade. My 6010L also had problems in F/W v.1.11 also but luckily I was able to recover it but with v.1.01.18 restored. Thanks for the support.

You can manually upgrade the firmware.
(1) Wire the camera to your router
(2) Reboot the camera and router
(3) Get the IP address of the camera from the connected device table in your router
(4) Enter the camera IP address in a browser on a PC connected to your LAN
(5) Log into the DCS-5222L web UI
(6) Download an earlier FW version here: ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DCS-5222L/REVB/ (if the FW is archived, then unzip the file)
(7) Upload the FW into the camera from the DCS-5222L web UI

Am also interested in this topic. I accidentally clicked OK to perform the upgrade while viewing my cam remotely via mydlink. Now it went offline with a red X dot. However the cam is in my cabin in remote Alaska and I cant get over there right away to access or remedy!
Want to provide some data points to see if anyone can help me access:
1) As I said I clicked the update option accidentally while in mydlink. So an upgrade was effectively done (or attempted) over WIFI.
2) I didn't touch the screen as figured trying to abort the process would have definitely been unfavorable.
3) I got a message on mydlink that a firmware upgrade is needed. The camera was still connected it seems but when I tried to view my cabin it went offline.
4) All I see is a red X dot now.

After new firmware is pushed to the camera, the camera automatically reboots to complete the upgrade process. If the camera uses a wireless connection, there's a strong possibility that for some reason the camera failed to reconnect to your router after the automatic reboot -- there are a number of reasons that can cause this relating to your router, other devices on the same network, and wireless signal strength/integrity.
A firmware failures are rather rare considering the small size of the FW file. Such a failure is technically possible if the camera or router happened to lose power during the upgrade process or if the wireless signal between the camera and router was disrupted during the actual download.

Adding to my last post, unfortunately if mydlink can't see the camera because the device is offline, there's no way to troubleshoot/resolve the issue without having remote or physical access to the camera.

Thanks Java, that's really helpful. Am keeping my fingers crossed although there is not much I can do about it.
In light of the fact after the upgrade or supposed upgrade, the mydlink screen still showed that I needed an upgrade, what do you think happened?
Also, is this whole situation fixable once I get to the cabin? I mean I can somehow fix the firmware problem if I get there? OR its basically bricked? Might have to order a new one and take it with me on my visit? Want to know if the cam is fixable with high degree of certainty with the method you pointed out above. Thanks so much again.

Unless there was a Internet disruption and/or power failure at the exact instant the firmware was downloaded and installed, I would say the odds of the unit being bricked are highly unlikely. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell until you have access to the camera (catch-22).
Again, if the camera was connected to your router via a wireless connection, there's a strong likelihood that it simply was unable to reconnect after the reboot. There's a good chance that simply rebooting the router or the camera will fix the issue. There are MANY other ways to restore connectivity as well, including performing a factory reset and reconfiguring the camera.

I'm happy -- in fact extremely happy-- to report my cam came back online by itself!!
And the firmware upgrade was successful. Of course, I don't recommend anyone do an intentional wireless upgrade. DLINK should consider recoding their software to block non-cabled upgrades from from happening. Thanks Java for your help!

I'm glad everything worked out. Is your DCS-5222L connected to your router using a wireless connection? If so, then it sounds like the router and camera had an intermittent communication issue that worked itself out, which sometimes happens.

Was your camera setup with a WIRELESS connection? Just curious.
D-Link does seem to advocate pushing wireless/remote upgrades. Many of the earlier kinks seem to have been worked out, but this isn't always the best solution for camera owners who are remote and don't have direct camera access to address issues that may result from an upgrade.

I normally don't recommend upgrading via wireless on Cameras however for testing purposes and to ensure that wireless upgrade path is working. I have upgraded my 933L successfully each time via wireless. I think that in most cases, wireless upgrade path will work. However, I would recommend checking for any wireless interferences before upgrading via wireless. Should there by some interferences, i.e. other wireless APs, routers or 2.4Ghz house phones that are on or near the same frequencies and channels, this could present a bad connection between the camera and the main host router and could cause some FW upgrades to go bad, thus bricking the camera. I presume that if the camera has a good stable connection to the main host router, then the wireless upgrade path can be used. However for users with physical access to the camera, I recommend using the wired path to upgrade if you feel safer using this method or question the signal environment.

My reply referred to remote pushing of firmware from D-Link that's initiated by accepting a push notification from a mobile device running mydlink.
You still haven't answered my initial question: Was your camera setup with a WIRELESS connection?

Is your DCS-5222L < 1 year old (i.e. still under warranty)? Also, are you located in the United States?
Also, just to be sure, try a different Ethernet cable (I've been the victim of a bad cable more than I'd like to admit).

In addition to trying a different Ethernet cable. . . in another thread you mention that your DIR-636L is new. If you have an older router to test the camera on, I would definitely try that.

My DIR-636L has v1.05 firmware, rev. A1 operating at wireless N connection hidden SSID with 20/40mhz width enabled. Encryption is WPA2-personal. However all my DIR,-655 and DI-624+ are also operating at channel 5. Hope that I could still recover it by myself. Problem is LED indicator is always red. Also connected to these routers but to no avail. :(

Since you've seemingly exhausted all other options, here's one last procedure to try that may provide some relief:
Download Firmware
- Visit mydlink.com/support (http://mydlink.com/support) or ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS (ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS) for the desired firmware
- If the firmware is in a .zip or .rar archive, extract the contents
Establish a static IP address on your PC
- Connect the camera directly to a PC Ethernet port
- Windows 7 - Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
- Right-Click Local Area Connection and select Properties
- Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and select Properties
- Select the Use the following IP address radio button
- In the IP address field enter 192.168.0.55
- In the Subnet mask field enter 255.255.255.0
- In the Default gateway field enter 192.168.0.20
- Press OK
Access Camera
- Using an Internet browser on the PC, enter the following address: http://192.168.0.20
- If the camera prompts for a username and password, enter Username: admin; Password: [Leave field blank]
- Navigate to MAINTENANCE > Firmware Upgrade and upload the firmware file previously saved to the PC desktop
PLEASE POST BACK AND LET US KNOW IF THIS WORKS!!!

Not sure what you mean. It is on a wireless connection. But I found it easier to set it up using a wired connection then log in to mydlink and switch to a wireless connection. And it remained on the wireless connection.
On the remote pushing I see what you mean on the mobile app but it contradicts what they tell people elsewhere.

I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel. One last modification to this procedure (based on my understanding of how similar recovery works with D-Link routers...)
1. Plug the camera into the PC
2. Unplug the power cord from the camera
3. Press and hold the reset button on camera
4. While the reset button is pressed down, plug the power cord in (keep the reset button pressed)
5. Hold the reset button until the LED lights start to blink (not sure how long)
6. continue with rest of procedure described in my earlier post...

Thanks JavaLawyer for the number of replies assisting me to resolve the problem. Did execute for more than a week, the continuous pressing of reset during power on but the LED stays lit and 192.168.0.20 is still inaccessible. Confirmed in my PC's gateway IP address using ipconfig command but the browser can't connect to its WebUI configuration. Problem is the LED always indicate red. Thanks again for all the support.

Really grateful for all the assistance given. I've noticed recently that the firmware upgrade option was removed from both mydlink app and website. It's a good measure to avoid the trouble of it, specially for WiFi connected cameras. Found out when I downgraded my DCS-6010L from 1.11 to 1.01. From its thread, many are complaining for its malfunctioned condition using the 1.11. Hope that 1.12 will come out soon, as stable as 1.01. Sad thing is I need to bring my DCS-5222LB1 for repair. :(

From its thread, many are complaining for its malfunctioned condition using the 1.11. Hope that 1.12 will come out soon, as stable as 1.01. Sad thing is I need to bring my DCS-5222LB1 for repair. :(

Bought in the Philippines and bought it 7 months ago. Now staying and using it in Guam.

I can't speak for the Philippines, but units purchased in the U.S. have a one year warranty. Once approved for an RMA, defective products such as this one can be returned to D-Link for replacement with proof of purchase < 1 year old.

Bought it with a 1 year warranty from authorized outlet. I'll check if it is still within the period, along my 6010L which is now also experience frequent disconnection problem after mydlink firmware update, even using the stable version. Thanks!

Are you using a Reserved IP address through your router? If so, try deleting the camera entry from the router and manually re-add it. It's possible a corrupt entry is contributing to the disconnects. You can also try performing a factory reset on the DCS-6010L.
In the DCS-6010L web UI, save a Configuration Settings file first so you can quickly restore your camera settings. Make sure you test the Configuration Settings file before performing the reset, as the file doesn't always save properly using some non-IE browsers.

Hello All,
I preferred to excavate this trend rather starting a new one as it seems to me that the issue I am facing is very similar to the ones exposed here.
I did configure my brand new DCS-5222L yesterday and once this was done I decided to upgrade the firmware because it seemed that it was quite outdated.
I was connected on MyDlink and I started the update process. Of course I noticed the warning that the camera had to be connected to the router with a cable and not wireless. But I believed that the update soft would indicate me when to plug the camera to the router (the configuration process was quite well detailed with some animation so I believed it would be the same for the firmware process). After 15 minutes where nothing was happening I understood that the camera had to be plugged before starting the process. Instead of shutting down the camera I preferred to log off the website to start again. Big mistake!
Since then the camera LED remains red solid.
I have tried the various suggestions by JavaLawyer with no joy...
2 things which surprise me a bit:
- when powering the camera on, it still performs the pan and tilt initiation process
- when I plug the camera to my Macbook ethernet port the indicator turns green on my computer. And it turns red when I unplug the camera from the Mac or when I power it off. So the computer recognizes there is something on the other end of the ethernet cable.
So is there any other suggestion by the forum gurus to solve this issue?
I am not too optimistic to say the least, but it's worth asking anyway.
I have sent a request to D-link through their website. I will see if they respond to me and come back with an interesting suggestion.

If it fails to recover the camera, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Hi Gael292929. It happened to my unit also and did perform all the suggestions received from this forum which I'm grateful. But after exhausting all efforts, I brought it to the local support for repairs and the regional office did find it defective/non-repairable so they did replace the unit. Just sharing my experience here.
