Post by: mabu on September 11, 2009, 10:09:34 AM
Hi,
has anyone experience how I can get the shareport utility working under Windows 7?
I have a DIR-655 with the firmware version 1.21EU. I have try the versio 110, 114 and 115 of the Shareport. The installation works fine but when I start the utility an error message say "SharePort Installation incomplete. Please reinstall"

Thanks for your help
Mabu

1.10 works fine for me and I've installed on three windows 7 machines in the house.  maybe your download of the file was incomplete or corrupt?

check if you have the right admin rights to install. Done a load of W7 installs (from pre-7100 RC to current RTM) and all working OK.

Works well with DIR-825b and Win7 RTM...  You may have to run install as the administrator...

I'm getting the same error... I'm running Windows 7 64-bit RC1 wired. It works fine on my laptop which is also running Windows 7 wireless but it's 32-bit. Any ideas, thanks.

I run Win7 64-bit with no troubles (wired, wireless, RC and RTM). Try reinstalling with a manual delete of all leftovers.

I figured it out... goto "Devices and Printers", delete the printer/fax/scanner that points to the same hardware. Reboot the PC and startup shareport, this will reinstall all the drivers for the printer/fax/scanner. Hope this helps.

Hi,
thanks for your help. Now it works with Version 1.14 and Windows7 x64 DE RTM.
I have deleted all old entrys form the registry and folders before the I have done a new installation. Although the installation reports a unsuccessfull installation it works after a reboot.

Cheers

Does not support 64 bit OS

Does not support 64 bit OS

Nonsense. There's a 32-bit ánd a 64-bit installer in the same package. And they both work.

you are correct the 64-bit app works but getting the printer to connect under 64-bit will not work.

Hi,

I experienced major hassles with WIn7 X64 and Shareport for printing...wheras it worked fine under XP.

I was seeing all kinda of whacy printing output that others have been seeing as well...something to do with the spooler buffers if I had to make a symptomatic guess of some sort....

But my little $25 USB Print server has taken care of all that headache for now....  Maybe I'll revisit Shareport if they ever release a re-worked client...

Can you give a hint one what kind of USB print server you have?  Also, does your printer have a built in scanner and does it work?

This is pretty much what I got. It does return information like ink level on my Canon iP4500, so I would be doubtful that it would work properly for a scanner or multi-function all-in-one model at this price point.  I read they do make units that will pass data back to a PC but they likely cost more than the $25 I paid for mine.  Shareport (when working) DID do that much.

Just did some quick follow up....

If you NEED ink level and such to be sent back to your pc from the printer using a printserver gizmo, then make sure it supports BI-DIRECTIONAL data transfers.....  many do not !! As I have found out....not a huge thing for me, but ot might be for somebody using an all-in-one....

Thanks for the info.  I have a HP Photosmart All-in-One c5250 and need the scanner along with the CD labeler to work.

It would be nice if D-Link would fix the shareport app under 64-bit Windows 7.  Sorry, I think I'm asking for too much, no?

Reach out to user SESCA (a Dlink rep) and provide any detailed report of symptoms you are seeing.... He has been very helpful with me.

Hello. FTP/R (First Time Post/Reply). This utility is very strange. I have 3 PC's, two are dual bootable, and the third is a makeshift HTPC running Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise. The HTPC connects to my external Shareport HDD flawlessly (the connection is wireless though...hmmmm), but the othe two PC's are sporadic, well Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate just won't connect. The utility window states that the drive is available, but when I click to connect, nothing happens, it just reverts to "available". The machines also boot into 32 Bit versions of Windows XP Professional, and Vista Ultimate, and the SharePort connects fine in those versions. The only difference I see is that the HTPC is just running Microsoft Security Essentials and the default Windows Firewall. The Windows XP, and Windows Vista Machines are running Kasparsky 2009. Whereas my Windows 64 Bit Ultimate is running AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials. I was leaning toward a Firewall issue, but I can not detect anything blocking SharePort.
I NEED HELP

My Router is a D-Link DIR-628, running Firmware Version: 1.23NA Hardware Version: A2.

From reading the posts, it seems that Win 7 64-bit SHOULD work with SharePort.  However, I cannot get it to work.  I have a brand new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed and fully updated.

My LAN configuration is simple.  PC wired into DIR-655 and a printer wired in too.  Router connects to a cable modem.

SharePort tells me:
No device servers were found on the network.

Also, one other interesting aspect...
Before upgrading my DIR-655 firmware and installing the SharePort client, Windows 7 was able to create a network diagram of my network.
Since the Firmware update and restore of my router settings, and installed client, of course,
Windows 7 now gets an error trying to build the network map.
"An error happened during the mapping process."

Note however, that in trying to diagnose all this, i have tried a thyird party mapping tool that worked just fine, but did not see the attached USB drive.

The mapping issue is Windows related. I have one PC failing it and another two that just do it the right way.

Printer on USb or ethernet? Shareport only works with USB devices. If USB, check your firewall. It should have created a rule for Shareport.

I see that this is fairly an hot topic, but there seems to be no clear resolution to the problem. I guess I should be "satisfied" that one PC is working with SharePort, but that is not me. I guess to figure out this problem, is to talk to someone who has this thing working consistently with Windows 7 64 bit (besides me, since my experience is far from consistant). I hear theres a SharePort 3.0, but like Big Foot and Aliens, it seems very elusive to locate.

I am running Shareport V3.  I have DIR-825 router with 2.03NA firmware.  I am running Windows 7 64-bit OS.  My difficulties with Shareport appeared to clear up when I disabled the Windows Firewall.  I am running Comodo Firewall in its place.

There was a post somewhere that pointed me to this, I cannot recall where it was.  But look on this forum for instructions about what firewall rules are required and that may help.

My only problem at the moment appears to be momentary dropped connections with the router.  It could actually be an ISP problem; my ISP has not been performing well as of late.

Good luck!

ok i got a different error.....mine is a TWAIN_32.dll error. After clicking the OK button to acknowledge the error, i can still use my printer via the shareport. Support replied me saying Win 7 64bits not supported. Any help guys ?

Twain_32.dll is related to the scanning functions, not the printing functions....

thanks for the reply...but i have unpowered the scanner out as it does not have win64bit drivers...so i am not sure why shareport is constantly seeking TWAIN_32 whenenver i launch the utility.

Because Shareport can also share scanners/multifunctional devices. And probly Shareport was initially setup also with the scanner still attached.

I never attached a scanner to the Shareport.
I had the twain32.dll error before, but after the error, mij HP 1700 businessJet was working fine.
Howerver, whenever I printed the first time from win7 64-bit ultimate, the router restarted instantly.
The problem did not occur from win7 32-bit machines.

I have now upgrade from 1.16 to 1.17
The twain error persists, but no way to reconnect my printer anymore. So the situation has worsened
Bweurk.

I was wondering is the twain32 error is related to the connection problems, since indeed the twain32.dll is not in use by my printer.
My Shareport enthousiasme is cooling rapidly, might get back to shared printer or IP printer as before.
