This will be only the second winter with this camera.  I have been using these cameras for several years, altogether.   I have cameras at my home and office, which is a block away.  They are all part of the same network.  All of the cameras at each location are plugged into D-Link PoE switches.  One camera was still withing the 1 year warranty, every other camera was just outside of the year.  The actual outdoor temps were well withing the operating range.   

It's frustrating because I don't want to keep investing in cameras that are not going to last very long.   I am experiencing a 30% failure rate.   I only want PoE cameras, as they are easier to install without local power.

Is there any way to disable the internal heater?  Since this is apparently the problem with all of my failed cameras.   I am now experiencing the same problems with a different camera (same model).  Is there a way to disconnect it or re-write the code to disable it.   Preferable code as I cannot reach some of the cameras without a ladder and there's snow on the ground. 

Our overnight temperature got down to -2 degrees last night.    My indoor cameras seem to work better outside than these cameras, in the same locations.

Might crack one open and see. Not sure if there is any thing you can do. Let us know if you find out anything.

I will, when I do.  They are past warranty, so, I'm not losing anything.   

Any other recommendations for PoE D-Link Cameras, which will be more reliaable outside?  I think I am going to return the 2 new ones I purchased.  They were $100/each through the D-link store, but it's not worth the hassle to go through this on a regular basis.

The inside of a 2330L. Could it be Y2? 

You should be missing  con1 (WiFi).   I only opened it up to try to clean the sensor, ir cut filter. I wasn't looking for a heater.

Maybe one of those FLIR temp readers - put the camera in the freezer, heater should kick on, find it, compare to when it is off and cold.


Searching the internet for camera heaters from other manufacturers, turns up a bunch of different looking parts.  None of which I can really compare to the images.

The red and black twisted wires look like they are for the mic.
