I am running a DCS-2310L camera with a TP Link POE injector.  For some reason the camera runs flawlessly for several months but stops working consistently.   I have replaced it once and now the new camera is doing the same thing.  I have powercycled the camera,  updated the firmware, reset the camera (multiple times).    On the D-viewcam program,  I ran the diagnostics and it looks like the camera is over heating and restarting.   This camera also drops from the mydlink cloud.   I have 6 other cameras, which work fine, with the same TP-Link POE injector.   Any ideas?

Have you swapped injectors?
Tried different network cable?
Where is this camera located? Does the 2310l log show the on board heater coming on?

Yes, I actually have checked different injectors, I just bought a new injector and the camera stayed connected for a day.  I have tried different cables, I have a cable tester, which says the cable is good.  It is located on the back of my house, under an eve with no direct sun or rain exposure.  I have a D-link Switch as the connection point in the house.  Yes, It looks like the heater has come on several times. 
I have not tried the actual power adapter, because there is no local power.  It does on the previous camera which I moved because of the same problem.  (It is now on the garage facing the house.)

Yes - there is something of a heater device inside ..although I don't remember seeing anything special when I opened one up. lol

So it's very odd that this only happens on one of your outdoor cameras, and not the others.

I do see that in the log during winter time here, and when I put it in the freezer.


Which TP Link injector are you using exactly?

Do the heaters on the other cameras come on?

How long is the network cable from the TP Link injector ?  How long are the ones on the cameras without issue?

I've used  a TP-POE150S model before on a different camera, and it is 802.3af compliant.
Dlink only specifies:

My TP LInk says 15.4 W max.

edit: I'm talking about the sister camera, the 2330L which shares the same features as the 2310, except it does not have PoE.

I just measured the cable I removed.  It is 36 feet + the 2 feet that go to the switch.  This camera has one of the shorter runs, I have 3 cameras at my office, which is a ranch style house.  Those cameras can easily be 30-50+ feet of cable.    Those run through the attic and down into the basement where the switch is.  I am using the TP-Link Gigabit Ethernet PoE Injector Adapter (TL-PoE150S) on all of the cameras and the same brand of Cat6 Ethernet cable.

I just checked the logs of 5 other cameras, including the old one, which is now powered by the power cord.  Only one of the PoE cameras has indications that the heat was on more than 5 times in the last 4+ days.  4 of the cameras had the Heat on once.   We have had temps in the 30's and 40's.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas on this one. 

Any reason why you didn't buy a PoE switch instead of all the TP Link adapters? (I don't think that would solve your problem though).

It is interesting to note that, I brought this camera into the house yesterday at 3:00 p.m.  I am using the same PoE, but different cable from the PoE injector to the camera, and the camera has remained online.   I know the outdoor cable tests as good, so, I'm not sure what's going on......     The other camera was having problems in the warm summer months, so, I am not sure if it's the heater, or not.     My next guess could be the port on the D-Link switch.   

I did not use a PoE switch, because I already had enough Linksys switches, so I figured the PoE injectors were the cheaper options.   I almost bought a D-Link PoE switch, just to try it, but I guessed that would not resolve the problem.

The heater shouldn't come on in the summer.

I wonder if PoE can fail at lower temps?  Put the camera in your fridge and see if the heater turns on? (Mind didn't after 10 minutes, so I put it in the freezer and it did). I was using world and power adapter on my 2330l.  Maybe try that to eliminate the PoE if it goes offline again?

(The other camera kept disconnecting in the summer months, so my guess is that the heater isn't the problem.)

What is a world and power adapter?  (or, was that a misspelling?)

A quick update, I set up my camera in my garage for a few hours yesterday (40 degrees) with no problems.  At 4 p.m. I moved it to my freezer.   As of 1:25 p.m. today, it is still connected.   The log reported "Set Heater to Off", only during the initial log in.  Everything has been stable since.  It is plugged into the same network switch, but not the same port.  (I am thinking the port is the cause of the problem.)  I have a different, non PoE camera plugged into that port with no issues.

I have not resolved the problem.   It all worked fine in the freezer.   But it still does not work outside, even though the setup is exactly the same cable.  I just fed the cable outside and plugged the camera back into it.   

So, if anyone else has an idea, please let me know.

Are you are using the ethernet plug cover?  Or did you rig up something else?
