Please add USB external drive support already! :)
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:55:26 PM »

Seriously, Dlink, that usb printer port on the back is useless, especially if anyone like me tosses the dlink in a closet for NAS functions other than using a printer. I would really love to plug another external drive to the usb and believe me, I have tried using funplug and no - go atleast for the latest version. It can't be that hard to allow us to add one more disk to the solution, would it?

Please ask the powers that be if they would consider adding simple external drive support to the dlink 323 :)

I agree here, As I have said before.  Moving/Backing up files FROM the DNS would be way faster than moving them on the network.  I really hope there is some way to DIRECTLY transfer files from the DNS to a USB storage device in the future.

I'll add my vote.

Me too!
I would love to be able to hook up my 500GB WD USB and back up the whole DNS-323 without going through the network or another computer.
This would be a Major value Add-on for me.

Since my Synology DS209 writes NTFS at about 6mbytes/sec, I wouldn't look for any fast performance for NTFS attached disks, even if they do decide to support it.  The processor and memory in the DNS-323 just isn't sufficient for decent speeds unless you use FAT32 or EXT2/3 formatted disks.

I thought funplug allowed you manually mount an external USB drive...

Have you guys tried out the SharePort on the DNS-323?
