The printer is new, and I am able to print using the USB cord, but the "Wireless Network Test Report" returns a FAIL when the printer looks for my SSID.  During printer setup yesterday, both the SSID and WPA key were accepted and the install software claimed the printer was added to my wireless network, but so far it has failed to do any wireless printing.

- HP's tech support had me open a bunch of ports (TCP and UDP) in my windows firewall, but still no success.  By the way, is it ok that I chose subnet as opposed to "any computer" when setting the scope on those ports?

- Spoke with Dlink support today, and she had me uncheck the "Enable SPI" box.  Still no change.

Setup - The computer I am currently trying to print from is connected to the router via a cable.  There are two other computers that are wireless only that I will move to next if I can get this one to print.  The printer is an HP C4750, router is DIR-655 (1.32NA), and I'm running Windows XP Home.

Anyone out there got the cure for me?

Also, I've not yet even pondered using the Shareport functionality on the router.

I had a lot of trouble setting my HP printer up as well, but this was well before I got my 655.  I neglected to set up the wireless printer that I have the proper way, and maybe you made the same mistake.  At any rate, did you set up your printer "FOR WIRELESS" while you had it plugged into your computer?  Then disconnect the cable when the setup told you to?  If you didn't set it up this way, I'm pretty sure that that is your problem.  Did you use the setup disc and cable to set it up for wireless?

Yeah, I followed all the instructions in the setup guide, plugging and unplugging USB when it told me to.  Gave it my SSID and key info when it prompted....went fairly smooth actually.  Part of yesterdays fun also included a level 3 uninstall (per the HP rep) and starting over.  I repeated the process, but when it got to the end where it tries to wirelessly print a "report", it failed, again.

I've also tried getting the WPS functions on both my router and printer to synch, but haven't had any luck...with either the PIN, or the push-button function.  So far, the two refuse to acknowledge they are 5 feet from each other.  The router says it will wait 120 seconds while I "push the button" on the printer, then I push the button, the printer says it is "connecting"....but that's it.  The router times out and rinse and repeat.  Same with entering the PIN into the router.

Just curious, but does the printer also have an ethernet port on it?  If it does, I would try setting it up via that port rather than the USB port.  My printer also has multiple type ports on it and IT HAD TO BE set up via the ethernet connection otherwise it wouldn't function properly at all (wirelessly).

Nope.....power and USB are the only 2 cords that can be plugged in on the printer.   :'(

I'll give it til Monday for the Einsteins of the networking world to come up with an answer......then it's back to the store with it.

Hi,

Is your router set up for .11N only by chance ?  Almost ALL wireless printers I have ever seen use .11G for wireless....

I would set up a DHCP reservation for the printer in the router's setup and then program that local IP into the printer..usually can adjust this from the printer's keypad...

For now, disable the wireless encryption with the router until you can get the printer going....then once its working at all, set the encryption by hand....do not use the push button encryption (in my opinion).

Is your SSID set to broadcast or hidden ?  Set to broadcast until you get the printer going....

Is your printer sitting next to any cordless phones or other wireless devices ? many things can disrupt the 2.4Ghz signals....

Thank you SD1,

My router is in "mixed" mode, there are 3 laptops connected to it via .11g.

The printer doesn't have a keypad, and I believe I've exhausted the limited menu it has for wireless settings.  I don't see anywhere that I can see the IP for the printer.  The "Wireless Network Test Report" it spits out does give me a MAC address, but the IP results in "N/A".  Perhaps the IP would show on the report if the printer didn't fail to see my SSID.

In the wireless window, under the Setup Tab, my router shows as "visible", as opposed to "Invisible", so I will assume it is NOT hidden.

I appreciate your input and will work on removing the encryption and such AFTER I get the flowers planted outside.  Flowers come first around here!  lol

Let me know if you think there is anything I can do with the MAC address as opposed to the IP.  MAC address filter under the Advanced tab maybe?  How would that affect the other pcs, blackberry, and DirecTV connections?

Thanks again!!

Hi Mapcap,

Have you remembered to turn off the D-Link's Network Filter, while adding the Printer?

Hi,

Just did some quick reading off google and the basic idea from some folks was to set up a reserved LAN IP from within the router setups because something in the printer software setup doesn't see the IP properly during setup, and it has issues getting an IP using its wireless afterwards....

Hi Mapcap,

In the "network filter" section under the advanced tab, the only option it gives is the MAC filtering, which is off.  Is that what you were referring to, or is there something somewhere else I am not seeing?

SD1...thank you for spending time looking into it, it's appreciated.  My problem is, at this point, I do not know how to get my IP off my printer.  The only place I've seen where it would be displayed is on the "wireless network test report" printout, but while it can't find the router's SSID, it shows the IP on that report as "N/A".  I've checked the limited menus on the LED screen and I've not seen how such info can be accessed there.

I will continue my work on this on Saturday.  I am burned out for today, and tomorrow won't be around the house.

Thank you everyone for your input and effort!

Hi Madcap,

Yes, that is what I am referring to.
