2TB hard drive
« on: July 13, 2010, 07:00:41 AM »

Hi I have a question regarding a 2TB HD I'm looking to purchase.

Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS 2TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148413&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Hard+Drives-_-Seagate-_-22148413

The list of supported drives does not include this one but I am wondering if that list is for just known drives that work or if that the only list that we all must abide by?

I think this drive is a good deal and just want to know if it is supported or not.

It should work, but I'd wait until someone posts that has installed it. :)

One good test is to load a file greater than 4Gb onto the drive and copy it to and from the drive on the NAS regularly over a week or two.

After that do  checkdisk on the HDD and see if there is any degradation to the drive.

This is a standard 512byte sector drive and should work fine.  I have a pair of these in a Synology, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't work in the DNS-323.
