OK, I'm back from holiday.

I'm wondering if the reset to factory defaults can be done using the "Restore Factory Defaults" button on the TOOLS, SYSTEM page, or should I use the button on the router?

OK, I'll do what you suggest.

Man, what's the point of a back up if it's useless.  :'(

Hi HighSierra,

A backup is not useless, if the Router gets scrambled because of a Power Failure. Do a Factory Reset, then restore your settings from the Configuration File. By the way, I always do the Backup and restored from my Desktop Briefcase folder. Makes it easier to find in an emergency, because it is always in front of you.

Update:

After a reset via button on router and manual reconfiguration Email notification now works. Thanks for all the help.

Hi HighSierra,

After everything is working, now would be a good time to back up your settings in a new Configuration File. It will always be good, as long as you don't upgrade your Firmware past version 1.21 that you noted.

Don't worry, I take lots of backups and am a firm believer in them. I spent 39 years in IT and know their value.

My comment about the backup being useless was specifically referring to the instance where you couldn't restore your settings after a firmware upgrade.
I think a little extra effort in the design of the backup/recovery process would have resulted in a process to allow at least those settings that could be restored be restored.
Even a process to allow a printable file be copied to your PC would have been a great help in re inputting the values.

I took pictures of the screens as a means of recording my settings.

 Thanks again.

Hi HighSierra,

That would be one way, from Firmware version to another Firmware Version, but from within the Firmware Version, you can do it from here: http://192.168.0.1/Tools/System.shtml

Obviously. Too bad they didn't go the extra step.

Of course you can save as a web page, but that takes as long as taking all those pictures.
