Hard drive unconnected or something

I just received my DNS-323, so I put in my hard drive but it isn't recognized or something. I don't have any error message, it's just not detected, the LED doesn't light or anything. I tried to put it in the other slot, but no cigar. I really have no clue of what to do, please help >_<

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

The point the others are trying to make is that the drive fits in only one way and must be seated on the connector properly. It is unlikely that both bays are defective, but you never know.

Does the cover fit on? This is an indication that the drive is all the way in.

Do you have another drive to try?

What manufacturer and model drive is it?

Providing some detail instead of "it doesn't work" would go a long way to help us help you.

I recently installed a new drive and it wouldn't work until I "slammed" it in to place. I was being too carefull it would seem, hence the suggestion.

I also just got my 323 recently (f/ware : 1.08).
Plugged in the WD 20EARS on the left - Easy Search Utility can't detect (hence can't format).
Plugged in to right side, also not detected. Plugged both also same results.
323 was connected via ethernet cable to a XP notebook.
What's wrong ??

Your inability to get the ESU working has nothing to do with the original poster's issue. You might be better searching the forums.

WD EARS are also unsupported drives.

I'm not sure why you would be connecting this to your computer directly (afterall it's Network Attached Storage) as it is expected that you would connect this to a DHCP enabled router so that it can obtain an IP address automatically. But since you are connecting this way, you will need to make sure your computer is on the same subnet as it.

You also don't need to use the ESU at all.

I tried some other drives, and it turns out that the problem was coming from my drive, not the NAS (I hadn't pushed it far enough BTW). Sorry for everything, the fault was on my end >_<
(Is there any way to close a topic ?)
